11 Character Cameos In 'Harry Potter & The Cursed Child' That Fans Will Love

by Yvette Manes

I remember exactly where I was when I read the last chapter of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows (in a hotel room in Los Angeles.) It took me a long time to accept the fact that this would be the last book in the series. But then J.K. Rowling announced an eighth story, Harry Potter and The Cursed Child, in the form of a play in London. Even better? The play was being published and released as book. I couldn't wait to see all the characters cameos in Harry Potter and The Cursed Child.

What has excited fans the most about the release of Harry Potter and The Cursed Child isn't necessarily being given a whole new Harry Potter story, as much as the chance to revisit with our old favorites and see where life has led them. If someone unexpected happens to appear, even better.

There have been a great many witches and wizards lost during the seven years that the series took place. Some were gone too soon, and others hung around way longer than we would have liked. The exciting news is that readers and audience members are going to get to experience a few of their favorites (and not-so-favorites) again. Here are some of the Harry Potter characters making an unexpected appearance in Harry Potter and The Cursed Child.

1

Professor McGonagall

I guess it isn't a huge surprise that Professor McGonagall is back for the eighth installment. What may surprise you is that she is now the Headmistress of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. No one deserves this honor more.

2

Albus Dumbledore

The best part of the wizarding world is that paintings can move and talk. Sometimes they even give advice.

3

Severus Snape

Snape has been an integral part of every book so far. You didn't think he'd miss out on The Cursed Child, did you?

4

Lily Evans Potter

We catch a glimpse of Harry's mom tucking him into bed with a blanket. This is the same blanket Harry passes down to his son Albus when he heads off for school. So sweet, right?

5

Cedric Diggory

I remember bawling my eyes out when Cedric Diggory was murdered by that rat, Peter Pettigrew. The late winner of the Triwizard Tournament has a pretty important role in The Cursed Child. If only Rob Pattinson could reprise his Goblet of Fire role on stage.

6

Neville Longbottom

We soon learn that to get back one of our favorites, we may have to lose one of our favorites.

7

Moaning Myrtle

Moaning Myrtle has been around for a long time. In The Cursed Child she lends Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy a hand.

8

Dolores Umbridge

She is just the worst. But her appearance goes to show that turning back time can have disastrous results for the future.

9

Dementors

These creepy beasts were removed from their post at Azkaban by the Minister for Magic, Kingsley Shacklebolt. They make their return in Haryr Potter and The Cursed Child. I have to brush up on my Patronus Charm.

10

Bellatrix Lestrange

Even though the badass Molly Weasley took out this dark wizard, you will love how J.K. Rowling gives Bellatrix Lestrange "new life" in The Cursed Child.

11

Lord Voldemort

Weren't we done with you already? Like Snape, a Harry Potter story just isn't a Harry Potter story without Voldemort.
