You probably already have it circled on your calendar, but just a gentle reminder that Mother’s Day is May 10, 2020. “Alexa, set an alarm for May 10 at 8 a.m.” Right? Because we all know that even though it’s your big day, you’ll likely be the one up early making breakfast, organizing homework, and basically doing all the mom things you do already. So you might need a gentle nudge to post a sweet Instagram caption for Mother's Day to show how much you really do care.

Oh, sure. I know you want to be original and unique, but you know what else I know? You’re likely exhausted and could use a little creative help to make your mom feel like a million bucks. If you're planning a video chat or a Zoom "brunch" with the woman who made you the person you are today, send her a little extra love with a cute photo and one of these lines. Some are funny, some are profound, others will hit ya all up in the feels. Consider these options a "choose your own adventure" of mom-specific love language options. And don’t stress too much about picking the perfect words. 10 out of 10 moms agree that your mom will love the post no matter what you pick.

1

“To the world you may be one person, but to one person you are the world.”

Mom is the glue that holds the family together. The fixer of boo boos, the grocery-getter, the bill payer, the cheerleader. She does it all. To her children, a mother is in a league of her own. Where would you be without her?

2

“Life doesn't come with a manual. It comes with a mother.”

And she knows everything.

This caption will work perfectly with a photo of mom doing something she knows and loves. Gardening, reading, yelling at you. Whatever works, you know? Give a shoutout to your mom who has helped you even when you refused it, was kind and compassionate when she could've easily been mad at something you did, and who will always protect you until it's your turn to protect her.

3

"Everything that I am, you helped me to become."

Did she help you with your homework? Drive you to dance practice? Comfort you after your first big breakup? Edit your college application essays? Then this is the caption for you.

4

"God could not be everywhere, and therefore he made mothers." — Rudyard Kipling

She should definitely be smiling beatifically in this one. It's a classic, and perfect for a shot in nature, or wherever you spend your Mother's Day.

5

“Whatever else is unsure in this stinking dunghill of a world, a mother’s love is not.” — James Joyce

This dunghill stinks, but moms do what they can to make it all smell better. (With a little help from a lavender sachet, and some very clever detergent.) Again, big smiles, Mom.

6

"Motherhood: all love begins and ends there." — Robert Browning

This caption is perfect for a wide, bright family photo. Or maybe this would caption a beauty shot of mom, gazing off into the distance? Or walking the dog? Or holding a baby? It's the circle of life.

7

"Sometimes the strength of motherhood is greater than natural laws." — Barbara Kingsolver

This caption is perfect for a photo snapped while walking on the beach, or having a picnic in the park. Moms look great in nature. (Look through the shots you have stored on your phone.)

8

"Drinking MOMosas!"

Whether you're celebrating your mom in person or via video chat, you can send up a toast to your favorite MOMosa. Schedule the call now, then make sure your mom has orange juice and champagne on had for a little virtual brunch cheers by sending dad to the store or dropping off the provisions yourself.

9

"Mom: a title just above queen."

For all those amazing mamas out there, or, better yet, Glamas, this says it all. She’s your family’s queen bee so show her you mean it with this caption and possibly a little Photoshop to give her a crown. What would be even better is if you can find a vintage photo of her actually wearing a crown — hey, prom queens and pageant girls turn into moms too.

10

"It's not easy being a mother. If it were easy, fathers would do it." — Dorothy Zbornak, 'The Golden Girls'

This caption is perfect for a picture of mom with the grandkids, or maybe mom ribbing dad? Of course, fathers really can do everything moms can do (OK, almost) — but you don't have to worry about thanking that guy until next month.

11

"A mother understands what a child does not say." — Jewish Proverb

This sweet proverb captures how many of us feel every day. One reason mom-work sometimes slips under the radar is because it's so intuitive, and almost unconscious. Let her know that you appreciate the subtle kindnesses she's shown, throughout the years.

12

"Where would I be without her?"

This caption is perfect for any picture of you achieving something wonderful, or just enjoying life, no matter how trivial or extraordinary. After all, mom helped you get where you are today, and you quite literally would not be here if it weren't for her.

13

"Love as powerful as your mother’s for you leaves its own mark." — J.K. Rowling

Can’t find the words to tell your mom how much she means to you? Look to another badass mama, J.K. Rowling, the goddess author behind Harry Potter. In her own brilliant way the mother of three sums up exactly what a mother’s love is all about. Like the scar on Harry Potter’s head, it leaves a mark (albeit a nice one, not a lightening bolt from a dark lord, but oh, where was I?).
