15 Inspirational 4th Of July Quotes

by Kristina Johnson

To many Americans, the 4th of July means a long weekend filled with family and food. The day, however, obviously has a much deeper significance: the founding of our country. Way back in 1776, the United States was born when American colonists decided they'd had enough of British rule and declared independence. If you're in need of a little positivity this year to celebrate the country's 241st birthday, there are a number of of inspirational 4th of July quotes to get you in the true spirit of the day.

Many peoples celebrate the holiday with things like parades, trips to the beach, and, of course, lots of fireworks— it is, after all, kind of a giant birthday party. And that's actually what one of the Founding Fathers intended for the holiday. According to Slate, John Adams once wrote in a letter to his wife Abigail that the day should be celebrated with "pomp and parade, with [shows], games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations from one end of this continent to the other from this time forward forever more." It seems his wish came true, as many still mark the founding of the country with the same kind of festivities. That being said, it's still important to keep the meaning of the holiday in mind.
