Disney
17 Halloween Movies For Kids (And A Few For Adults, Too)

by Ni'Kesia Pannell

Halloween is almost here, so if you're not already binge-watching Halloween movies, you should be. If you're like me, the best part of Halloween isn't really the candy as much as it is the continuous movies that you can watch during the time of the year. Though these movies can definitely be watched throughout the entire year, there's something about watching them during the month of October that just feels so right. What's even better about those same movies is that Halloween movies for kids can be watched as adults, too and you don't have to feel even slightly guilty about loving them.

When I was a kid, Halloween was the start of the family-inclusive holidays. I mean, the fact that Halloween precedes both Thanksgiving and Christmas is a great way to kick off the family-friendly holiday season. I love the fact that my family and I would sit around the living room every weekend in October and binge watch all of the Halloween movies we could find. Since there's clearly not a shortage of spooky movies in the world, there was never a dull moment for us.

If you're looking for a way to kick off your overflow of spook-tastic movies, these 17 should be how you and your family do it.

1

'Hocus Pocus'

In 1993, Disney released what is now known as one of the best Halloween movies ever created. Now, over 20 years later, Hocus Pocus is still getting kids and parents excited during the Halloween season. If you ask me, there is no Halloween without seeing Hocus Pocus at least once during the month.

2

'Twitches'

Another Disney movie that has made a big impact on the kids is their early 2000 DCOM, Twitches. Starring Tia and Tamera Mowry, the movie follows a set of twin witches who discover their powers and each other on their 21 birthday.

3

'Corpse Bride'

Tim Burton's Corpse Bride is another family-friendly film that will fit perfectly into your Halloween movie line up. Though it is an animated film, be sure that you monitor whether or not children eight and below should be watching with you.

4

'Hotel Transylvania'

Hotel Transylvania has made it onto my favorite movies to watch, especially during Halloween. Not only is it filled with monsters and ghouls, it's a great film to get the kids laughing with it's not-so-scary characters.

5

'The Nightmare Before Christmas'

Animated in the same way Corpse Bride is, 1993's The Nightmare Before Christmas is the epitome of a Halloween movie.

6

'The Addams Family'

If your children have no idea what The Addams Family is, now is the perfect time to introduce them. A great family film, the original and its sequel will be perfect to pop in and watch together this Halloween.

7

'Casper'

Halloween is all about ghosts — even the friendly ones. Be sure to add Casper to this year's Halloween family night.

8

'Halloweentown'

Perhaps my favorite Halloween-inspired movie of all time, the DCOM Halloweentown is all you need for a ghoulishly good time.

9

'Monster House'

Looking to have a spooking night of fun? Pop in Monster House for everyone to enjoy. Plus, it'll serve as a reminder to the kids what can happen if they decide to ding-dong ditch the neighborhood's scariest house.

10

'Casper Meets Wendy'

If the original Casper is one that the family loves, then watching Casper Meets Wendy will be a great one, too.

11

'Double, Double, Toil And Trouble'

Though it's been awhile since Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have appeared on our screen, fans of the popular twins will know that their movie Double, Double, Toil and Trouble is totally a Halloween classic.

12

'Monster High: Ghouls Rule'

Monster High: Ghouls Rule is a great movie to watch with your little ghoulistas this Halloween.

13

'Harry Potter And the Sorcerer's Stone'

As the first installment to the Harry Potter series, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone is one of those movies that can be watched any time during the year. With all of the magic that fills it though, Halloween is an even greater time to pop it in.

14

'It's The Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown'

A classic within its own right, It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown will always be a good choice for a family-friendly film.

15

'Sleepy Hollow'

Sleepy Hollow might be a little too scary to watch alongside the younger kids this Halloween, but perfect for parents that want to join in on the spooky festivities.

16

'Beetlejuice'

Beetlejuice should be on everyone's list of movies to watch this Halloween. Though some of the scenes may not be too appropriate for the super-young kids, this could still be a great family film to watch this year.

17

'The Witches'

If you haven't watched 1990's The Witches, it's sure to be a great treat. Ideal for both adults and children, this film is one that often gets overlooked when it comes to Halloween.
