In today's day and age, women are well into the revival of feminism. Yet earning more than your partner still seems to be a taboo topic. But why? With the number of women who are getting promotions and climbing the corporate ladder consistently on the rise, America seems to be almost ready to shatter that glass ceiling. If you're the breadwinner of your family, you may feel the pressure. But you shouldn't feel embarrassment. There are plenty of reasons not to be embarrassed by making more than your partner.

It's 2016, and the reversal of "traditional" gender roles is on the rise. Stay at home dads are no longer a rarity, with Huffington Post noting roughly 1.9 million men stay home with this kids in the United States. Similarly, women are at the forefront of business, government, creative sectors, and more. Never has there been a better time to be a woman. And yet, somehow, women who make more money than their partner still have it ingrained in them that they should be embarrassed by this fact. Ladies, being the breadwinner of your family is an honor and a privilege, not a burden. And the reasons below will help you remember why.

It's A Good Thing

Repeat after me: It's a good thing. Think of all of the things being the breadwinner affords you, You have a successful and rewarding career, a partner who is more than their ability to pay the bills, and the comfort of knowing you're part of society's progression.

It Gives You Freedom

Since you don't rely on your partner financially, you don't have to worry about being trapped in a relationship for the wrong reasons. You can do the things you want, live the way you want, date who you want, all without the expectation of needing to be taken care of.

You Have A Real Partnership

While paying the tab may have been a sign of care and affection in the olden days, relationships have progressed. Being taken care of no longer needs to include fiscal responsibilities. At the end of the day, love doesn't mean footing the bill. What you can afford isn't everything. You and your partner can still support one another, and provide for one another, regardless of how many zeroes are on your paycheck.

According to Pew Research Center, in 2013 women earned more than men in almost a quarter of all households. Those numbers continue to rise. Ladies, you are not alone. Take comfort that there are households all over the country just like yours, where the woman is the breadwinner.
