5 Walgreens Hacks Every Mom Needs To Know

by Olivia Youngs

If you're anything like me, the thought of saving money while shopping for your essentials is better than any sale at your favorite clothing or specialty store. I'd rather save on toilet paper and salsa than on a dress that I'll probably only wear once. And if you have to buy the essentials, Walgreens has it all, from make up, to toys, to prescriptions, to basic groceries. If you're like most moms, you're also looking to save some cash when you shop. Luckily, there are a few Walgreens hacks that every mom needs to know to make her shopping as productive and thrifty as possible.

As you've probably already guessed, Walgreens makes it pretty easy for their customers to save money. Almost every item on the shelves is labeled with a yellow tag or marked down somehow. But between the money saving programs, weekly coupons, and in-store sales, knowing the best ways to save money can be trickier than you'd expect. These hacks will hash out the best ways for anyone to shop at Walgreens, from the common knowledge tips to the not-so-well known tricks, ensuring that when you do shop at Walgreens, you're shopping smart and saving when you can.

1

Save Money By Walking

According to Wise Bread, Walgreens offers shoppers points through their Balance Rewards Program using 13 smart phone apps that track users' steps, workouts, cycling sessions, weigh ins, and even blood pressure checks. Even if you're not a gym rat, chances are that, as a mom, you get your fair share of steps in every day. And saving money is an added incentive to stay active.

2

Sign Up For Their Balance Rewards Program

Signing up for Walgreens Balance Rewards program earns you points for just about everything you buy. Popsugar noted that the program is totally free to join and you can earn up to $50 (40,000) through shopping for just about anything in the store.

Additionally, unlike most stores, Walgreens only offers their sale prices (you know, those little yellow tags that are on just about everything,) to Balance Rewards members.

3

Head To The Back First

Like most stores, Walgreens has an entire section of marked down toys, make up, food products and more, but it's not out in the open. The aforementioned Popsugar article hinted at heading to the back of the store first, to shop the real bargains, before hitting the "full priced aisles."

4

Print The Weekly Ads

Walgreens has new weekly and monthly deals that are worth paying attention to. Their weekly ad is released every Sunday — both online and in paper form — and their coupon booklet is released monthly, according to the Krazy Coupon Lady website. Shopping with these in tow will help you save money big time, especially when combined with your Balance Rewards points.

Know The Difference Between Balance Rewards And Register Rewards

It sounds confusing at first, but Walgreens has yet another way for shoppers to save cash. Register Rewards are, simply put, rewards you earn when you check out at the register. The aforementioned Krazy Coupon Lady article noted that they're the long, receipt-like coupons that print off after your receipt and if you pay attention to what you buy (especially if the item is already on the weekly coupon,) you can earn rewards (ie. free cash) for each transaction.
