6 Times Adele’s ‘25’ Album Proved She Just Gets You

by Tiffany Thomas

If you can’t wait even one more day for Adele’s new album 25, you aren’t alone. The British singer’s third album leaked three days before it was set to go on sale. But while you should definitely wait for the official 25 release, I’ll just say that the wait will probably be worth it. A quick peek at the lyrics now posted online reveals that the Londoner’s new album is very likely as soulful and inspired as we all hoped.

Adele described her new album as a “make-up record” of sorts, a way for her to forgive herself for the past and begin to embrace the future. In a letter posted to her Twitter when she announced the release date for 25, she explained exactly what that means: “I feel like I’ve spent my whole life so far wishing it away,” she wrote. “Always wishing I was older, wishing I was somewhere else, wishing I could remember and wishing I could forget, too.”

I doubt anyone has gotten through their 20s without having that feeling, of (as she puts it) “teetering on the edge of being an old adolescent and a fully-fledged adult.” But as usual, Adele’s deep, expressive lyrics pinpoint exactly how difficult it is to let go of the past and accept what’s coming.

And now, that sound you hear is of thousands of Adele fans worldwide (the ones who simply couldn’t wait) openly weeping as the singer-songwriter once again rips all our emotions to shreds. If you don’t believe me, grab a glass of wine and just check out these six times that the lyrics from the songs in Adele’s 25 channelled every single one of your emotions.

When She Knew What You Wanted To Say When You Bumped Into ‘That’ Ex

"I was so scared to face my fears

Cause nobody told me that you'd be here

And I swore you moved overseas

That's what you said, when you left me"

(“When We Were Young”)

Then, She Reminded You That You Can Take The High Road After A Breakup

"I'm giving you up

I've forgiven it all

You set me free, ohhhh

Send my love to your new lover

Treat her better"

(“Send My Love”)

When She Knew How Much Adulting Can Suck

"I feel like my life is flashing by

And all I can do is watch and cry

I miss the air, I miss my friends

I miss my mother; I miss it when

Life was a party to be thrown

But that was a million years ago"

(“Million Years Ago”)

...And The Struggle Of Learning To Live With Your Past

"I know I'm not the only one

Who regrets the things they've done

Sometimes I just feel it's only me

Who never became who they thought they'd be"

(“Million Years Ago”)

When She Knew What It Felt Like To Be In Love And Vulnerable

"I'm scared to death if I let you in that you'll see I'm just a fade

Sometimes I feel lonely in the arms of your touch

But I know that's just me cause nothing ever is enough"

(“River Lea”)

When She Knew How It Felt To Finally Meet The Love Of Your Life

"No river is too wide or too deep for me to swim to you

Come whenever I'll be the shelter that won't let the rain come through

Your love is my truth

And I will always love you"

(“Remedy”)
