7 Reasons You Should Always Use Lube During Sex, Even If You've Never Tried It Before

by Meg Kehoe

Though you may not be an avid user of sexual lubrication, there's no time like the present to start your foray into the world of lube. In fact, there are several reasons you should always use lube during sex, even if (and especially if) you've never tried it before. Lube isn't just for women who are going through menopause, and it's not just for those who are experimenting in the bedroom. It's perfect for every day sexual encounters between you and your partner, and a few of the reasons you should keep a bottle by the bedside might even surprise you.

There seems to be a misconception in our society that young women don't need to use lubricant, and that their bodies should provide enough natural lubricant to get them primed for intercourse. However, that's just not true. The Independent reported a number of reasons that women of any age may experience vaginal dryness, including but not limited to stress, medical conditions, birth control, and other medications. So rather than relegating lube to something that only older women use, why not open up your worldview and try it out for yourself? The following things should give you more than enough reason to try it out.

1

It Makes It Easier To Orgasm

A study from Indiana University's Center for Sexual Health determined that lube makes it 50 percent easier to orgasm for both men and women. I mean, is there a reason you wouldn't want a 50 percent higher chance of reaching climax? I thought not.

2

It Can Prevent Membrane Tearing

In an interview with Marie Claire, sex counselor and author of She Comes First Ian Kerner said that lube can even prevent membrane tearing. Membrane tearing? Yeah, it's just as painful as it sounds. Buddy MD reported that membrane tears and vaginal fissures are basically the same thing, and they can make just about everything hurt.

3

It Helps Prevent STIs

Aside from the bonus lack of pain you'll be experiencing without those torn membranes mentioned above, you'll also be further protected from STDs and STIs, since membrane tearing can increase your risk of contracting them, according to Healthline.

4

It Makes Things More Comfortable

If you're not a lube user, you might not produce enough of your own moisture, according to Marie Claire. Which can make your sex much, much less comfortable than it ought to be. Don't do that to yourself, friends. Just don't.

5

It Gets You Ready Faster

By using lube, you're ready for sex much faster than you are should you wait for your body to provide its natural lubricants. If you have trouble with vaginal dryness, or if you're ready to get down and dirty but your body's not quite there yet, lube is the answer.

6

Not Nearly Enough Women Do

In a study published in the Journal of Sexual Medicine, an enormous 35 percent of women admitted to never having tried using lube during sex. That's a whole lot of women who have never experienced the joy of lube. Ladies, lube up.

7

It's Awesome

What it really comes down to, is that lube is just awesome. Whether you're going solo or with a partner, there's no denying it can make sex a more pleasurable experience. So go out on a limb, grab yourself some lube (they make it in all different shapes, sizes, flavors and fun effects), and get to it.
