Life
As a kid I remember thinking I was so much smarter than my mom. Then I became a teacher and had a taste of my own medicine. Kids regularly treated me like a total idiot. In fact, I once argued with a student about how many periods are in a hockey game. Then again, sometimes kids really are smarter than adults. In fact, when I talked to a few moms who were kind enough to reveal a moment when their super smart kid made them feel stupid, I realized that kids making their parents feel pretty damn dumb is par for the parenting course.
I can't pinpoint the exact moment my son switched from thinking I was the smartest person in the whole world, to realizing I'm far from it. However, that moment definitely happened, and it seems to have happened in a flash and there doesn't appear to be a reset button anywhere around.
In some ways, I am sure it's a positive thing. I mean, my son is starting to trust his own ideas and opinions. Then again, sometimes it hurts my feelings, especially because I have always prided myself on my intellect and my academic ability. At least I am in the same boat as these accomplished, smart women, right?

"I was playing hide-and-go-seek with my kids and my daughter said, 'Mommy, you don't understand the game. You have to hide so I can't see you!' I was trying to help!"

"I was writing a shopping list and I made a mistake and crossed it out. My kid turned to me and said snidely, 'Still learning?' Ouch!"

"My kids are always making me feel stupid. The other day in the car, my youngest went to ask me a question and my oldest interrupted saying, 'Don't ask her, she don't know.' I didn't even get a chance to get it wrong!"

"The other day my son went to ask me a question. I stopped what I was doing and turned to listen and then he said, 'Don't worry, I'll ask dad.' What? I have a Ph.D.!"

"My son is such a 'know-it-all.' At 6 years old he thinks he is so much smarter than me. If he makes a mistake and I point it out he blames me for 'distracting him.' Like seriously?"

"My daughter just realized that I am someone else's boss and she kept saying, 'You? You are the boss?' Like it was so unbelievable!"

"I was playing with my kids and getting into the back story of our little Lego characters. Then my son turns to me and says, 'You know this is just pretend, right, mommy?' Yeah, thanks, buddy. I got it!"
