A Galentine's Day Playlist To For The Best Feb. 13

by Ni'Kesia Pannell

Valentine's Day is almost here, and, of course, some are more excited than others. To be honest, I've never been super into Valentine's Day because I've been single every time it comes around. Since this is usually the case for most of my millennial friends, we've made it a tradition to spend the day together without moping around about being single. Everyone in my crew adds their special touch to our list of things to do and because I'm the music buff of the group, I'm tasked with making a Galentine playlist to dedicate to your friends.

When it comes to making playlists for certain occasions, I love to use old music. To me, it always seems like older songs put people in a better mood and make them remember the great times they had. So, when Valentine's Day comes around and my gal pals are requesting a bomb playlist to accompany our activities, I never slack on giving them the good tunes. Sure, current songs will turn the party out and get you amped up, too, but there's really nothing like hearing that old song to add to the perfect date with your friends.

Need a little inspiration to create your own list? These 25 songs will be good to throw in there somewhere.

1

"Ladies Night" by Lil' Kim Feat. Angie Martinez, Left Eye, Da Brat & Missy Elliott

What better way to kick off a playlist for your gals than to throw in Lil' Kim's epic party song, "Ladies Night"? There isn't one, clearly.

2

"Show Stopper" by Danity Kane Feat. Yung Joc

If you roll with a group of show stoppers, then putting Danity Kane's song by the same name on your playlist should really be a no brainer.

3

"Jumpin' Jumpin'" by Destiny's Child

Remind your girls that being single this Valentine's Day could be more of a blessing than it is a curse because the club is jumpin', jumpin', according to Destiny's Child.

4

"SexyBack" by Justin Timberlake Feat. Timbaland

Vow to bring sexy back this Galentine's Day and encourage your gals to do the same. Not sure if it's possible? Just remember if JT said it, it can totally happen.

5

"Buy You A Drank" by T-Pain Feat. Yung Joc

Remember when you were taking over the club with your girls when T-Pain dropped this song in 2007? Remind them of that nostalgic moment by adding this to your playlist.

6

"Wannabe" by Spice Girls

Though the friendship between the Spice Girls may have ended, you and your gal pals can keep it going forever by playing "Wannabe" as often as you can.

7

"Get Me Bodied" by Beyoncé

A girlfriend's playlist wouldn't be complete without a little Beyoncé, and "Get Me Bodied" will make you want to hit the scene with your crew.

8

"Dance Tonight" by Lucy Pearl

Looking for a way to add a bit of calm to the party? "Dance Tonight" by Lucy Pearl will give you exactly what you're looking for.

9

"Party In The U.S.A." by Miley Cyrus

Have a party in your living room with this classic Miley Cyrus song.

10

"It's Like That" by Mariah Carey Feat. Jermaine Dupri & Fatman Scoop

When Mariah Carey released "It's Like That," my friends and I were a little too young to enjoy this song in the club. Because of that, it's always added to every playlist we make for each other. You should add it to yours, too.

11

"Get Right" by Jennifer Lopez

Encourage your girls to let themselves go this Galentine's Day with J. Lo's "Get Right." They'll appreciate you afterwards.

12

"I Wanna Be Bad" by Willa Ford Feat. Royce da 5'9"

Whether you remember Willa Ford's "I Wanna Be Bad" or not, throwing it on this list will open your girls up to kicking back and letting their hair down this year.

13

"Can't Tell Me Nothing" by Kanye West

I'm sorry, was you saying something? Unh unh, you can't tell my girls nothin'.

14

"Shawty Is A 10" by The-Dream Feat. Fabolous

Sometimes, you just need to remind your friends how badass they are. So, adding this song to the list will definitely do that.

15

"Blame It" by Jamie Foxx Feat. T-Pain

Get the drinks flowing and the party going by turning up Jamie Foxx's "Blame It" this Galentine's Day.

16

"Party" by Beyoncé Feat. J. Cole

More Beyoncé because what party is a party without her hits?

17

"Dirrty" by Christina Aguilera Feat. Redman

Take it back to the early 2000s and remind your girls how OK it is to live a little dirty every now and again.

18

"Hollaback Girl" by Gwen Stefani

All the girls will stomp their feet to this.

19

"Boys (Co-Ed Remix)" by Britney Spears Feat. Pharrell

The "Boys (Co-Ed Remix)" by Britney Spears and Pharrell is a song guaranteed to making anyone who listens feel so, so good and everyone needs to feel like that on Galentine's Day.

20

"Milkshake" by Kelis

"Milkshake" by Kelis is still one of the hottest girl anthems around and putting it on your playlist will help your girls feel themselves more than before.

21

"My Humps" by The Black Eyed Peas

Give your girls the boost they need to have a good time and flaunt their lovely lady lumps — in the back and in the front.

22

"Grown Woman" by Beyoncé

Put it down like the grown woman you and your girls are with Beyoncé's catchy and very accurate anthem.

23

"Like This" by Kelly Rowland Feat. Eve

Are one of the girls fresh off of a breakup or just a little down about not having a Valentine? Play this for them and make it bump like this.

24

"Drop It Low" by Ester Dean Feat. Chris Brown

Created for all the "money makin' misses," Ester Dean's "Drop It Low" is a feel good, party starting track that all your girls will appreciate.

25

"Beautiful" by Snoop Dogg Feat. Pharrell

Galentine's Day is meant to make your girls feel good, so playing Snoop and Pharrell's hit single "Beautiful" will surely do that.
