Are All The Bushes Voting For Hillary Clinton? They're Not Endorsing Trump

by Jenn Rose

It seems that former president George H.W. Bush isn't a sore loser. Even though her husband snatched the presidency from him back in 1992, Bush, a Republican, is reportedly planning on voting for former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton this November. In fact, nearly all of the Bushes might vote for Clinton, because not a single one of them seems to be voting for Republican nominee Donald Trump. The fact that the former president isn't a Trump supporter isn't new; he famously declined to attend the Republican National Convention in July. But this is the first time his pick for president has been revealed.

Former Maryland Lt. Gov. Kathleen Hartington Kennedy Townsend (yes, one of those Kennedys) first broke the news on her Facebook page on Monday, posting a photo of herself posing with Bush and captioning it, "The President told me he’s voting for Hillary!!" Politico then spoke to Townsend by phone, and she confirmed that she'd met the 41st president in Maine, and he had indeed told her he was voting for Clinton. Bush Spokesman Jim McGrath declined to confirm or deny the story, stressing that Bush is a "private citizen." Bush's former vice president and noted Murphy Brown opponent Dan Quayle is Team Trump, but he appears to be the only Bush-adjacent person who is.

Barbara Bush

The matriarch of the Bush family hasn't revealed who she's voting for, but one thing's for sure, it won't be Trump.

While failed Republican presidential hopeful refuses to vote for "untrustworthy liberal" Clinton, he's also not voting for Trump, so this one's a wash. However, his senior campaign adviser Sally Bradshaw has promised to vote for Clinton if the Florida race is close — which it is. "I can't look my children in the eye and tell them I voted for Donald Trump," she told CNN.

Jeb's wife, Columba, is a ghost. She barely said a word about the presidential election when her husband was in it, and she's certainly not speaking up now. Columba may have married into a political dynasty, but she's reportedly so over politics. But considering her rough upbringing, and all the work Clinton's done to support women and children, I'd like to think she's secretly With Her.

Like his father, the 43rd president is also firmly anti-Trump, and although he hasn't publicly endorsed Clinton, many of his staffers have, including his former aide, Lezlee Westine, former Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz, and former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage. It's not crazy to assume that their old boss will follow suit.

Laura Bush

Michelle Obama's bestie Laura Bush said at the annual Women in the World summit in April that she wants a president who will "pay attention to our history," and who's "interested in women in Afghanistan." Hey, I know someone who fits that description! It's the same person who wrote the blurb for the cover of Laura's book, We Are Afghan Women. Guess what her name is. Just guess.

George and Laura's twin daughters refuse to say who they're voting for, although it did come out in 2010 that they're both registered as Independent. Jenna did recently admit to People that "it is a little worrisome that there's such a rhetoric of hate or bullying" in Trump's campaign. "I wouldn't want my children to speak to other kids that way and they're three."

And The Rest

It's easy to forget that George and Jeb have three more siblings. The only thing we're getting out of their sister, Dorothy, is that she feels "politics is personal," according to The Hill, but the last two are a bit noisier: Neil Bush joined Texas Sen Ted Cruz's campaign for a time, and told Fox that he "wouldn’t support a guy who’s got Donald Trump’s behavior," but he also "definitely will not be for Hillary Clinton." Marvin Bush, best known for ruining Jeb's wedding photos, said back in July that he's voting for Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson. But then again, that was before What is Aleppo-gate, so maybe he's changed his tune since then. Perhaps the rest of the family can stage an intervention.
