Pregnancy Doesn't Mean Breaking Up With Your Dildo

Whether your sex drive is off the charts during your pregnancy or you simply want to unwind with an orgasm, many moms reach for their sex toys while they're pregnant. Some prefer to use them with their partners but, let's be honest, sometimes you're just too exhausted for sex and your dildo is the next best thing. If you're wondering, "Can I use a dildo while pregnant?", I get it. It's scary to think about putting anything inside your vagina while your womb is occupied. But you don't have to put your sex toys away for the next nine months — you can totally use your dildo while you're pregnant.

According to Parents, there's something really great about pregnancy, especially if you're using sex toys. Your genitals are engorged and super sensitive thanks to a surge in the hormones estrogen and progesterone, which means you may enjoy your dildo even more than before.

But it's also entirely safe to use your dildo. If your pregnancy is healthy, progressing normally, and your doctor has not told you that sex is off limits, pretty much anything goes in the bedroom. Even rough intercourse is OK, so it stands to reason that using a dildo is no different than having intercourse with your partner while you're pregnant. Honestly, the most important thing to keep in mind when using your dildo while pregnant is to make sure you keep it clean. Fit Pregnancy recommended washing the surface of your sex toy after every use with warm water and a gentle soap.

Parents noted that a dildo is harder and more rigid than a penis, so trust your judgment. If you feel uncomfortable or in pain, you might need to thrust more gently than you would have if you weren't pregnant. Start slow and work your way up to pleasure so that you can be as safe as possible while still enjoying the big O.

Just remember, your baby is well protected. There are so many things in place to keep your baby cushioned comfortably inside your uterus that you don't have to worry about your dildo disturbing them. Mayo Clinic noted that your baby is protected by the amniotic fluid in your uterus, as well as the uterus's strong muscles so a dildo isn't going to do any damage. As long as you're OK to have sex, you're OK to use your dildo. Check with your doctor if there are any situations where you think it's not OK to have intercourse, like unexplained vaginal bleeding or leaking amniotic fluid.
