A Lin-Manuel Miranda EGOT Would Be The Best

The 2017 Oscars are finally here, ad film aficionados couldn't be more excited. Obviously it's an honor just to be nominated, and an even bigger honor to take home the golden statue. But for Lin-Manuel Miranda, a win could mean something much more. Going into the award show, many are wondering could Lin-Manuel Miranda EGOT at the 2017 Oscars?

For those not in the industry know, EGOT is an acronym for Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, Tony. Basically, the most coveted awards in show business. Miranda, who is best known for producing this tiny musical called Hamilton (y'all sense my sarcasm, right?), received a Best Original Song nomination for creating the music and lyrics for "How Far I'll Go" from Moana. If he were to win Best Original Song tonight, that would earn him a spot on the very exclusive list of EGOT winners. So exclusive that, according to Heavy, only 12 actors and actresses currently hold the EGOT title. A 2017 Oscar victory could make Miranda lucky number 13.

But that's not all. If he were to win a 2017 Oscar, Us Weekly noted that Miranda would be the youngest EGOT recipient ever. Could you imagine the bragging rights that would come with that?

According to his official website, Miranda's road to the EGOT began in 2008 when he won the Tony Award for Best Original Score for his musical In The Heights. (As an aside, he took home two Tonys in 2016 for Hamilton — Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score). Then, in 2009, Miranda took home a Best Musical Album Grammy for In The Heights (once again, he took home this same award in 2016 for Hamilton.) Miranda took a bit of break from the award show circuit, until he received a 2014 Emmy nomination for his work on the 67th Tony Awards. And, you guessed it, he won. What can I say — the man is non-stop.

But unlike his Tonys, this won't be a runaway victory for Miranda, as he has some pretty tough competition. Fan-favorite La La Land has two nominations in the category. Additionally, Justin Timberlake is nominated for "Can't Stop The Feeling" from Trolls. And I mean, it's hard to beat a boy bander.

Going into the award show, numerous publications, including Vanity Fair predict La La Land to win Best Original Song. But hey, upsets happen all the time. And hopefully an upset in this category would lead something very satisfying for Miranda.
