If you spend too much time on the internet, eventually you'll come across a dad using his small child to scare the living daylights out of his family. Which is exactly what this dad who Photoshops his daughter into scary situations does. And they're actually pretty hilarious.
Stephen Crowley, 32, is a Dublin-based designer and dad to a gorgeous 18-month-old baby girl named Hannah. But instead of posing for nice, mushy photos with his daughter, he instead Photoshops her into scary situations — propped up on a railing over a lake, playing with knives, climbing a ladder into the attic. He's a web guy, so the Photoshop jobs are so good that at first glance, you'll initially want to call Child Protective Services... until you realize that there's no way an 18-month-old could scale a ladder. (Hopefully not, at least. Toddlers are sort of unpredictable.)
Crowley told Romper via email that the responses to his Instagram posts have been mainly positive, "with the odd person not getting the joke and commenting I 'should be shot.'" Oy. Crowley said that he thought it was funny to put someone "so delicate" into "precarious situations."
But Hannah is far from delicate. She was born with a very rare immune disorder called hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis, or HLH. It's a life threatening disease that led to her spending six whole months of her first year in a hospital. She went through chemo and eventually had to get a bone marrow transplant, which was the only cure for her HLH.
Crowley hopes that he can raise awareness about how important it is for people to become a donor and he told Romper that he hopes anyone who smiles at his pictures will sign up to become one through Be The Match. There are 27 million bone marrow donors in the world, but only three were a match for little Hannah.
Basically, the more donors, the better. In Hannah's case, Crowley said that some "anonymous German lady donated" and saved his daughter's life. Small world, huh?
The proud dad said that since they spent so much time in the hospital early on in Hannah's life, they try to take as many pics as possible now. Crowley told Romper:
We take tons of photos now that we're able to do normal things out of isolation. She is doing much better now, in and out of hospital, but she's lots of fun, always smiling, and has a great sense of humor given what she's been through so far.
Hannah definitely is a good sport. After all she and her family have been through, they deserve a good laugh, and thankfully, Crowley is sharing it with the world, too.
