Did Beyonce & JAY-Z Name Their Twins After Themselves?

by Gillian Walters

Beyoncé and JAY-Z are undoubtedly masters of suspense. Ever since Beyoncé gave birth to twins sometime last week, fans have been speculating on everything and anything about the babies, including their names. Now that a rumor supposedly revealing the babies' names is circulating, fans are wondering if Beyoncé and JAY-Z named the twins after themselves. If you're a member of the Beyhive, you might be skeptical.

Although Beyoncé and JAY-Z have yet to comment to Romper.com and other media outlets on the birth of their twins, as well as on a report claiming that the babies were born premature, rumors are still running rampant. The latest rumor is that the babies names are Shawn and Bea (pronounced Bee), according to MediaTakeOut.com. The report said that "the boy’s name is Shawn after his dad, and the girl’s name is Bea – after their parents.”

To make the story even more confusing, The Hollywood Gossip published a story suggesting the names are actually Sean and Bea. Similarly to most rumors, these stories can't be traced to reliable sources. At this point, no one from Beyoncé or JAY-Z's family has commented publicly on the twins' names. Although "inside sources" are often cited in stories solely based on rumor, it doesn't always stop fans from getting carried away. Luckily for Beyoncé, however, her fans are discerning super sleuths that don't take rumors about her at face value.

Although the rumored names are cute and could be a nice homage to Beyoncé and JAY-Z's relationship, the choice doesn't necessarily make sense. When Beyoncé and JAY-Z brought Blue Ivy into the world in 2012, fans complimented the couple for picking out a totally unique name for their daughter. It seems a little off-brand for Beyoncé and JAY-Z to simply name their twins after themselves instead of concocting one of a kind monikers for their new kids. Obviously, "Bea" (Bee) is a reference to Beyoncé herself while "Sean" (or "Shawn") is a nod to JAY-Z's real name, Sean Carter.

To add further suspicion to MediaTakeOut.com's report that one of the twins' name is "Shawn," it would be bizarre for JAY-Z to give his son misspelled version of his name, right? Furthermore, Beyoncé and JAY-Z are such creative pioneers that it's hard to imagine they wouldn't want to give the twins a chance to forge their own unique identities. If the twins' are named what they're rumored to be, then they'll have a lot to live up to. On the flip side to this argument, inheriting the legacies of Beyoncé and JAY-Z isn't too shabby. It's safe to say the twins' rumored names would definitely open up a lot of doors.

Following the rumors, Beyoncé's most dubious fans took to Twitter to express their feelings:

Obviously, fans won't know the truth until Beyoncé and JAY-Z release a formal statement confirming or denying the rumors. At this point, everything is all speculation. Either way, Beyoncé and JAY-Z deserve the upmost privacy until they decide to publicly reveal information about their babies. Whether you like the rumored names or not, it doesn't really matter. What matters most is the health and happiness of the twins, and fans must respect the names Beyoncé and JAY-Z ultimately choose for them.
