Did Ghost Help Jon Snow’s Resurrection On ‘Game Of Thrones’? It's Not Clear

by Megan Walsh

There's always been a connection between the Starks and their direwolves on Game of Thrones that goes beyond a mere pal with a pet. It was a deep bond that seemed to transcend anything; the wolves were protective above all, and Bran Stark was even able to see through his wolf's eyes. On tonight's episode, "Home," something pretty huge went down: Jon Snow came back. But he didn't do it until he was all alone with his direwolf. Did Ghost help Jon's Snow's resurrection on Game of Thrones?

Here's how it went down, in case you missed it. The room where Jon's body was kept was full, with Davos and others in attendance, as Melisandre tried to work her magic to bring Jon back from the dead. It wasn't an affair full of as much fire and brimstone as one would expect; Ghost even slept through the whole thing, sprawled on the floor. It was quiet. Melisandre cleaned Jon's wounds and murmured some magic words, but it didn't seem like anything was happening. Her necklace wasn't glowing and Jon wasn't so much as batting an eyelash. However, as everyone gave up and left one by one, Ghost finally began to stir. The wolf got to his feet, and moments later Jon took his first gasping breath back to life.

The question is, was that a coincidence? Did Mel's magic just take a few minutes to kick in, or was Ghost absolutely necessary to the process? Many people felt Ghost would ultimately be of importance in Jon coming back to life because of that Stark connection with their wolves. In the books, Jon is able to warg into Ghost like Bran can do with his wolf Summer, so many fans speculated that Jon warging into Ghost at the moment of his death would actually save his life. There wasn't any sign of this in the show, however.

There's no real hint that Ghost worked some kind of wolf mojo to give Jon a final push back from the other side. Rather, Ghost waking up merely seemed to be in anticipation of Jon; he could sense his master was back, so he perked right up. More might be revealed later on as the show deals with the fallout of Jon's resurrection, but as of right now it isn't at all clear that Ghost actually had anything to do with Jon waking up.
