What To Know About Kim K's Relationship With Her Surrogate

Early Wednesday morning, TMZ reported Kim Kardashian West and husband Kanye West have hired a surrogate in the hopes of adding one (or more) children to their family of four. The reports were later confirmed by numerous news outlets, including People, leaving many fans with a variety of questions. One such question? Well, does Kardashian know her surrogate? While little is known about the woman who will eventually carry the next Kardashian baby, it looks like the family will be choosing a surrogate via an agency.

Kardashian has been open and honest about her complications with both previous pregnancies, even writing on her blog about placenta accreta and how painful, disgusting, and scary the condition made her pregnancies with both her daughter, North West, and her son, Saint West. In one such post, the Keeping Up With The Kardashian star wrote,

My doctor had to stick his entire arm in me and detach the placenta with his hand, scraping it away from my uterus with his fingernails. How disgusting and painful! My mom was crying; she had never seen anything like this before. My delivery was fairly easy, but then going through that — it was the most painful experience of my life! They gave me a second epidural but we were racing against time, so I just had to deal.

According to the American Pregnancy association, placenta accreta is "a condition that occurs where the placenta attaches itself too deeply into the wall of the uterus, and occurs in approximately 1 in 2,500 pregnancies.

Due to the severity of the condition, Kardashian realized, according to People, that experiencing another pregnancy was too risky. On Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kardashian told her mother, Kris Jenner, "I've come to the conclusion in my mind that I can't carry another one. So now I want to explore surrogacy." According to TMZ, Kardashian and her husband have hired a surrogate via an agency, which makes it highly likely that the couple will not know, personally, the woman who will eventually carry their baby. TMZ goes on to report the couple will be paying their surrogate a reported $45,000 in 10, $4,500 monthly installments.

That's not to say the couple didn't have options to reach out to family members and friends, though. Chrissy Teigen told Access Hollywood she would be Kardashian's surrogate "in a second," going on to say, "I really enjoyed the pregnancy process — I loved it. Yes. In a heartbeat." Kardashian's sister, Khloe Kardashian, has also offered to be her sister's surrogate via a conversation caught on Keeping Up With The Kardashians cameras.

While the surrogate details remain unknown (and should, honestly, stay that way until the surrogate herself wishes to reveal more information to the general public) one thing is for certain: the Kardashian-West family is loved, surrounded by friends and family who are willing to help them bring another child into the world, and are lucky and privileged enough to do so on their own terms via a surrogate agency. Their family planning choices are, as always, theirs to make.
