George Clooney's Twins Will Arrive Soon

by Alana Romain

George Clooney may have had to back out of a scheduled appearance at the Aurora Prize for Awakening Humanity ceremony in Armenia Sunday, but in a taped video message, he explained that he had a very important reason for doing so. Although the actor is a member of the Aurora Prize Selection Committee and was set to attend, according to People, George Clooney said that the twins' nearing due date has meant that he's put all travel on hold for now. Clooney explained to the audience that he would have liked to have been in Armenia for the ceremony, but joked, "if I came there and my wife had twins while I was there, I could never come home.”

That's a pretty exciting update — not to mention a big hint as to when the world can expect the Clooney twins' arrival. The couple announced back in February that they were expecting twins, according to TODAY, and not long after the announcement, Clooney's mother shared that they would be welcoming a boy and a girl. The dad-to-be also spoke about the pregnancy later that month, according to Hello!, and told French film journalist Laurent Weil, “We are really happy and really excited. It's going to be an adventure. We've sort of embraced it all… with arms wide open."

While Clooney and his wife, human rights attorney Amal Clooney, have understandably remained pretty tight-lipped about the details of their parenthood preparation, E! News reported earlier this month that it's likely that Amal will be giving birth in London, and that she and George will be settling down in the U.K., at least while their children are young. According to The New York Daily News, Amal works for Doughty Street Chambers in London, and she and George own a home in Oxfordshire, England.

A source also told E! News that Amal "plans to be back at work around six months after giving birth," but that the extremely-accomplished barrister expects that her schedule will be much different, and that it will include "a lot of time working [from] home." George and Amal will certainly have their hands full once their babies arrive, but the source claimed that the couple isn't planning to hire a live-in or full-time nanny to help with their twins. Instead, they'll reportedly be opting for a night nurse, and perhaps a little extra help from Amal's London-based mother, journalist Baria Alamuddin.

While George may not have had the opportunity to support the Aurora Prize awards in person, he honored this year's recipient, Dr. Tom Catena, in his video message. Catena — a Catholic missionary from Amsterdam, New York — earned the $1.1 million award for his work in the Nuba Mountains of the Sudan, where he is the only permanent doctor in the war-torn region, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Clooney praised Catena for his life-saving work, and said,

As violence and war continue to threaten people’s spirits and perseverance, it is important to recognize, empower and celebrate people like Dr. Catena who are selflessly helping others to not only survive, but thrive. Dr. Catena is a role model to us all, and yet another example of people on the ground truly making a difference.

The any-day-now arrival of his children may have put a damper on George Clooney's travel plans, but it's probably safe to assume he wasn't too disappointed. After all, if there's ever been a reason to cancel a trip, having a very-pregnant-with-twins wife at home is definitely a good one.
