George Clooney Jokes About His Dad Duties In The Most George Clooney Way

by Josie Rhodes Cook

George Clooney and his wife, human rights lawyer Amal Clooney, welcomed twins back in June, but they've been fairly private about family life since. There have been no official photos of the twins, Alexander and Ella, and the new parents seem quite committed to privacy for their babies. But George Clooney finally talked about being a dad in a recent interview, and his frank comments will probably seem pretty relatable to most parents of newborns.

Clooney shared some insights into his life as a father with the Associated Press, and Us Weekly reported that the 56-year-old actor is covering everything from diaper duty to spit-up episodes as part of his daddy duties. In fact, Clooney made a joke about the fact that the presence of puke on his attire is not exactly a new occurrence, but the origin of the substance has changed. Clooney joked:

I just have to clean the barf off of my tux. It used to be my barf but now it's the twins' barf. So it all works out.

Having to deal with baby barf is a pretty common part of being a new parent, and that comment by Clooney isn't the only one many parents can probably relate to.

George and Amal recently enjoyed a night out away from the twins, according to Metro, and while that's a relatable treat that many new parents can benefit from, most people probably don't have to deal with photographers capturing their every move while they're out like the Clooneys do. But the couple took it in stride, and luckily, it appeared that they were mostly left alone to enjoy their night out together.

And it sounds like they deserved it. For starters, George is on "double diaper duty" at home, according to Us Weekly. And although Amal has obviously been busy with the babies as well, George is more than impressed by her supermom abilities. He said of his wife:

She's like an Olympic athlete. She's doing so beautifully.

And he made it clear that parenthood is not all funny anecdotes about puke. In the interview, George admitted how scary becoming a first time father was for him. He confessed:

Suddenly, you're responsible for other people, which is terrifying.

Which is another sentiment that most parents can likely agree with.

As if new parents don't have enough to worry about, George and Amal also have to contend with the very public nature of their celebrity status affecting their children's lives as well. In late July, paparazzi photos of the twins were published in France's Voici magazine, and George was really upset by the incident. In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, George said:

Over the last week photographers from Voici magazine scaled our fence, climbed our tree and illegally took pictures of our infants inside our home. Make no mistake the photographers, the agency and the magazine will be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. The safety of our children demands it.

And unfortunately, it probably won't be the last time something like that happens. George is, undoubtedly, one of the biggest stars in the world, and as unfair as it is, that means some paparazzi photographers might think photos of his kids are fair game — despite what common decency or the law says.

But the Clooneys handled that incident well, and when it comes to parenting their twins in the privacy of their home, away from nosy photographers, George believes it's all about taking everything as it comes. He said, according to Us Weekly:

I really didn't think at 56 that I would be the parent of twins. Don't make plans. You always have to just enjoy the ride.

Many parents will say that those baby days can seem like they just rush by. Taking a step back and enjoying the ride is indeed one of the best things you can do when you're a new parent, and it sounds like George and Amal are doing just that.
