Gwyneth Paltrow & Chris Martin Are Recording A Song Together, Proving That They're Totally Nailing This Post-Divorce Friendship Thing

by Alana Romain

Let’s be honest: breakups are not easy. Even in the best of circumstances they can still be messy and painful. But when kids are in the mix, things become even more complicated. After all, no matter your personal feelings towards each other, you still have to somehow figure out a way to co-parent effectively for, well, the rest of your children’s lives. No big deal, right? But amidst all the quickie divorces and alleged cheating-with-the-nanny scandals in Hollywood, it turns out that there are a number of former celebrity couples who can teach the rest of us a thing or two about staying friendly after a breakup. With news that Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin have recorded a song together for Coldplay’s upcoming new album, A Head Full Of Dreams, it seems that they might just be the king and queen of post-divorce friendship, publicly praising each other, going out to dinner together, and even vacationing together as a family. Even now that they’ve both moved on to new relationships, they’ve managed to stay on top of their friendly-exes game, which no doubt is a wonderful thing for their children, Apple and Moses.

But Gwyneth and Chris aren’t the only one who seem to be doing a great job at conscious uncoupling. These other famous exes are also setting awesome examples for maintaining healthy post-breakup friendships:

Miranda Kerr & Orlando Bloom

Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom are just so beautiful that you couldn’t help but hope they’d stay in love forever like some kind of childhood fairytale couple. Things were looking good there for a while, with a secret wedding and then the arrival of their son, Flynn. But the two sadly called it quits in 2003, although they’ve managed to keep things totally amicable. Kerr even shared in an interview earlier this year that she now lives across the street from her ex, saying that, “it kind of felt better for Flynn that way."

Hilary Duff & Mike Comrie

Hilary Duff and her former-hockey-player ex Mike Comrie seemed like a great match, and they looked totally in love when they married in a gorgeous ceremony in 2010. Their adorable son Luca came along two years later, but they announced their split to the world after only four years of marriage. The two have remained extremely close though — with a reconciliation looking possible at one point! — and Duff says she and her ex “talk every day”. They’ve also vacationed together, and are often seen out with their son spending time as a family.

Before there was Gwyneth and Chris, there was Demi and Bruce. After 13 years and three daughters together, Moore and Willis filed for divorce in 2000, but they have remained incredibly supportive of one another ever since. He was there for Moore’s wedding to Ashton Kutcher in 2005, and she has even walked the red carpet with Willis and his current wife, Emma Heming. They also meet up on the regular to support their daughters at different events.

Courteney Cox & David Arquette

Courteney and David split after almost 10 years of marriage, and both have since moved on to other relationships. But they have remained super tight for their daughter Coco, with Arquette calling his ex one of his closest friends. They’ve also remained business partners, having formed a production company together in 2004.

Reese Witherspoon & Ryan Phillippe

Reese and Ryan were everyone’s favorite Hollywood couple until, well, they broke up. After seven years of marriage and two gorgeous children, Ava and Deacon, the two filed for divorce. She has since remarried and had another child, Tennessee, with hubby Jim Toth, but often come together for their birthday parties and soccer games in an effort to remain solid co-parents.

Jennifer Lopez & Marc Anthony

It seemed like Jennifer Lopez may have found true love with Marc Anthony after two failed marriages, particularly after she gave birth to their twins, Max and Emme. But they split after ten years of marriage, and he has since remarried. The two have remained very supportive of each other both personally and professionally for the sake of their kids, with Lopez sharing on HuffPost Live in 2014 that they remain "very good friends" to this day.
