Has Kit Harington Won An Emmy Before? The 'Game Of Thrones' Is Having His Moment

by Kathleen Walsh

Here in the so-called "golden age of television," the Emmys are more relevant than ever before, honoring the very best of television over the past year. This year, Game of Thrones is nominated for the most awards of any show on television, with an unbelievable 23 nominations. Many of these are for the actors who help bring to life the fantastical (and often wretched) world of Westeros. Among those actors is brooding hottie Kit Harington for his portrayal of the brooding undead hottie Jon Snow. Has Kit Harington won an Emmy before? Actually, this is his first Emmy nomination.

Harington's co-star Peter Dinklage leads the pack when it comes to Emmy nods for Game of Thrones. The actor, who plays Tyrion Lannister on the show, has been nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Drama Series every year in the past six years for Game of Thrones and has won the award twice, in the years 2011 and 2015. Harington, by contrast, has never before been nominated, and some may feel that this nod is overdue. In a statement, Harington said, "It is a serious understatement to say that I am somewhat stunned. For my work on Game of Thrones to be recognized in this way is an emotional moment for me. I could not be more humbled."

Harington is joined by co-stars Dinklage (again), Max Von Sydow for his portrayal of the Three-Eyed Raven, Emilia Clarke, Maisie Williams, and Lena Headley who all received nominations for their Outstanding acting. Naturally, the series' casting directors, Nina Gold, Robert Sterne, and Carla Stronge were also nominated for an Emmy this year and won. This is the second year in a row that HBO's Game of Thrones has been at the head of the pack as far as Emmy nominations goes. At the 2015 awards the show earned 24 nominations and won a whopping 12 awards, including for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Writing and Outstanding Directing. It's possible that this year the series could take home even more awards than in 2015. It's also possible that Harington could win for Outstanding Supporting Actor against heavyweight Dinklage. The other actors nominated for the award are Jonathan Banks for Better Call Saul, Michael Kelly for House of Cards, Ben Mendelsohn for Bloodline, and Jon Voight for Ray Donovan. Indiewire predicts that Harington will win the day.
