'Claws' Is Sure To Be A Nail-Biting Experience

by Zakiya Jamal

If you're looking for a new dramedy to watch this summer, look no further. This month, TNT is bringing you Claws, the new hour-long comedy that follows a group of five manicurists working at the Nail Artisan of Manatee County salon in South Florida. The show looks to be hilarious, but also filled with a healthy does of drama. Claws, which is executive produced by Rashida Jones, will premiere on Sunday, June 11 at 9 p.m. ET and some early fans may be wondering how many episodes is Claws exactly?

As it turns out, TNT gave the show a 10 episode first season to start, and hopefully this will only be the beginning for what looks to be a show filled with comedic gold. Claws stars Niecy Nash as Desna, the salon owner, who lives with and cares for her mentally ill twin brother Dean (Harold Perrineau). Desna's staff includes her best friend Jennifer (Jenn Lyon), Desna's driver and security guard for the salon Quiet Ann (Judy Reyes), Polly (Carrie Preston), who recently served time in jail for identity theft, and Virginia (Karrueche Tran), who'd literally rather be anywhere but at the salon.

Of course, all the manicurists are also dealing with their own issues, which inevitable become issues for the salon.

Desna's biggest issue is Roller (Jack Kesy) who runs a barely legal pain clinic and uses Desna's nail salon to launder the profits. Based on the trailer, it's clear Desna wants out of the money laundering game, but that's obviously easier said than done.

While Desna faces off with Roller, Jennifer is working to keep her sobriety while also trying to raise her two kids from previous relationships. Her husband, Bryce (Kevin Rankin), is trying to do the same while working as an abundance coach. Also starring in the show is Jason Antoon, who plays Dr. Ken Brickman and works at Roller's drug clinic. He's supposedly a real doctor who just works in a fake clinic. Sure.

Though the show definitely appears to be funny, there will surely be plenty of nail-biting moments as well. From gangsters trying to railroad Desna and her crew to everything else going down in their lives, these ladies will have to stick together to make all their dreams come true. Hopefully, they can get everything they want, but something tells me it won't be easy.

You can catch the series premiere of Claws when it debuts on Sunday, June 11 at 9 p.m. ET on TNT.
