Here's How Much Your Baby Should Poop & Pee

At my daughter's first visit with her pediatrician, the doctor looked her over, and began firing off a series of questions. How was she eating? Was she sleeping well? Were we having any issues? Oh, and did she have an adequate diaper count? That last one threw me for a loop. If you mean, are we already running low on those baby shower diapers, then yes — she's peeing and pooping like a champ. But I was still curious. How much should my baby poop and pee? I felt like I was changing a diaper as often as I was changing my own postpartum undergarments, but I was a new mom — now what?

Look, if you're not ready to get incredibly personal with a tiny human and basically track every type of bathroom activity they have, I don't know if you're ready to be a parent. Monitoring how much your baby poops and pees can give you insight into how well they're eating, whether or not they're dehydrated, and if that random gas pain was a bout of constipation, or just relief. Plus, you don't want to hyperventilate the day you come across a green poop in your kid's diaper, do you? (Parenting ain't pretty, you guys.) The chart below is designed to give you all of the information you need. Nobody's expecting you to memorize this (you're way too sleep deprived for that), but it could be incredibly helpful when it comes to your child's diaper activities. Print it, do a screen-grab on your phone, whatever works for you.
