How To Remove Kids' Halloween Makeup Without Enduring More Screams

by Ni'Kesia Pannell

Halloween is one of the most anticipated holidays amongst kids every year. To be quite honest, it may be even more anticipated by parents because of the many ways they're able to exercise their creative genes. With many families opting to go the DIY route when it comes to costumes these days, many children are choosing to deck themselves out in all the face paint they can find. Since face paint and makeup can be hard to get rid of after the night is done, knowing how to remove kids' Halloween makeup will come in handy come October 31.

I remember one Halloween in the '90s when I went all out as a clown, and my mom struggled to get all my makeup off afterwards. It was an absolute horror show trying to get the white and red paint off of my face. Now that I'm older and I've done it a few times, I've learned that there are plenty of items that can be used to remove Halloween makeup, the majority of which are may even be in the house already.

Of course using regular makeup wipes is an option, but depending on the base of the makeup you're using, they may not be enough. So, whether you have a water, cream, or oil-based makeup idea in mind this Halloween, these seven items should help you get through the removal process quickly.

1

Coconut Oil

Since oil adheres to oil, the site Kitchen Stewardship suggested using some virgin coconut oil to take off the Halloween makeup. Follow up by wiping the face with a wet washcloth.

2

Warm Water & Soap

If you're using a water-based makeup product for Halloween this year, using warm water and soap should be enough to remove it.

3

Baby Wipes

Just as makeup removers can be used to wipe away Halloween makeup, baby wipes can be used, too. When my sister painted my niece's face last year for her bumblebee costume, the removal was done with baby wipes and it was just as efficient as any makeup remover wipe.

MAC Cleanse Off Oil

If you're a mommy who already owns MAC'S cleanse off oil ($32), then you can also use this on your kids to remove their makeup this Halloween. According to Bustle, using an oil based cleanser will help remove the waxy residue left over from the makeup.

5

Shaving Cream

Barbasol Original Shaving Cream, $5, Amazon

After removing as much of your makeup as you can, Refinery29 noted that applying a thick layer of shaving cream and massaging it into your skin would do the trick for the rest.

6

Albolene

Albolene Moisturizing Cleanser, $13, Amazon

According to Huffington Post, using a cold cream like albolene to remove cream-based products is the way to go this Halloween. Massage the needed amount into your skin and wipe away with a warm washcloth.

7

Vaseline

StyleCaster noted that using vaseline to remove pigmented makeup is a great way to gently remove it. Apply it to the needed area, let it set for a few minutes and wipe clean with a warm cloth or dry cotton ball.
