How To Watch The Original 'GLOW' Series

Netflix wants to take you back to the '80s. The streaming services' new series, GLOW, tells the fictional story of an out-of-work actress who joins a show about female wrestlers in one final attempt to live out her dreams. Though the story itself is fictional, it is inspired by the real 1980's female wrestling league, Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling, or GLOW, for short. It was a real show that was set in L.A. and aired from 1986 to 1989. So with this new series coming out, some fans may want to know how to watch the original GLOW series and see where it all began.

Unfortunately, it's a bit difficult to get your hands on, believe it or not. You won't find the series on any streaming sites or on iTunes. However, you can purchase the DVDs from the show's official website. Each DVD is about $25, but with one DVD you get to see a multitude of matches. Alternatively, you can also find DVDs of the show on Amazon, with prices starting as low as $14.61.

Even though you can't find actual episodes from the show on any streaming sites, you can find GLOW: The Story of the Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling on Netflix and for purchase on iTunes and Amazon Video. The hour-long documentary tells the story of how these ladies became a phenomenon and garnered star-level status just from being on the show.

While the TV series was all about the ladies wrestling, there were also skits and a lot of comedy to it as well. It was a fun show filled with a diverse cast of women, which made it different from almost every other show that was out during that decade.

The new series will bring that same level of diversity and comedy that the original did. It stars Alison Brie as Ruth, the down on her luck actress, as well as Ellen Wong, Britt Baron, Sydelle Noel, Gayle Rankin, Kia Stevens, and so many others. GLOW is executive produced and co-created by the same people that brought viewers Orange Is the New Black and it's easy to see the similarities.

GLOW will obviously be a female-centered show about women doing things for themselves. It's all about empowerment and finding strength amongst each other. It'll also probably be hilarious with a hint of romance and, of course, some drama.

The new series begins streaming on Friday, June 23 only on Netflix.
