The Fate Of 'Bachelor In Paradise' Is Up In The Air

News broke on June 11 that production on Season 4 of Bachelor in Paradise has been halted due to allegations of "misconduct" during filming, which has many fans concerned about the fate of the show. So is Bachelor in Paradise Season 4 canceled? Romper reached out to ABC for comment and responded by providing the official statement given from Warner Bros. to various outlets on Sunday that reads:

We have become aware of allegations of misconduct on the set of Bachelor in Paradise in Mexico. We have suspended production and we are conducting a thorough investigation of these allegations. Once the investigation is complete, we will take appropriate responsive action.

According to TMZ, the suspension was caused after a producer complained that two contestants had allegedly engaged in oral sex in a swimming pool at some point during filming. According to the site's sources, the interaction supposedly happened between DeMario and female contestant, though this has yet to be confirmed. People magazine also alleges that this encounter may not have been consensual. Producers have stopped filming at the moment in order to investigate the incident.

Update: Sources have since told TMZ that Corinne Olympios — who was the reported female contestant — did not consent to being sexual with DeMario and was allegedly in a blackout state when things turned sexual. The sources claim she blames producers for not pulling the plug and protecting her, though some sources who have supposedly seen the tape state that she was "lucid and fully engaged."

Earlier: "The show absolutely values the primacy of consent," a source close to the show told People. "And this instance it appears as though conduct allegedly occurred without the proper consent having been given." Filming only recently began on Season 4 of Bachelor in Paradise, as it typically airs for several weeks at the end of the summer, but in light of the on-going investigation, it’s unclear if the season will eventually resume filming or be halted indefinitely.

The popular spin-off of The Bachelor and The Bachelorette features cast members from past seasons of each show as they stay at a resort in Mexico and find love with each other while fighting over potential partners. While in "paradise," the contestants get to know each other while seeking out potential partners.

As The New York Post reports, alcohol may have played a role in potentially preventing the cast member from being able to give proper consent, though that claim has yet to be confirmed by an official directly linked to the show.

So does that mean Bachelor in Paradise Season 4 is canceled completely? All contestants have been sent home and since the alleged incident just occurred over the weekend, it’s still not certain how long production will be put on hold or if it will resume once the matter is further investigated.
