Rhaegar Targaryen May Appear In The 'Game Of Thrones' Season 7 Finale

by Zakiya Jamal

The Season 7 finale of Game of Thrones is titled "The Dragon and the Wolf," and while many believe this is a hint at Daenerys and Jon Snow, others think it may actually refer to Jon's parents. Last season it was finally confirmed that Lyanna Stark is Jon's mother, and while many also made the clear jump that Rhaegar Targaryen is Jon's father, the show has yet to actually confirm that. Perhaps, they've been saving that special flashback confirmation. So is Rhaegar Targaryen in the Game of Thrones Season 7 finale?

Earlier this season, Gilly made a huge discovery that went overlooked by Sam, who was too busy complaining about his job. While going through an old Maester's journal, she discovered that a "Prince Raggar" got an annulment and then remarried to someone else (Lyanna). This seemed to all but confirm that not only is Rhaegar definitely Jon's father, but that Jon is also a legitimate heir to the Targaryen throne.

However, when it comes to Game of Thrones, it's difficult to really believe something is true without seeing it. So it seems the Season 7 finale may be taking viewers back in time once again — this time to the start (or end) of Rhaegar and Lyanna's romance. In fact, many believe they already know who will be playing the character.

Fans are confident actor Wilf Scolding will be playing Jon's dad in the finale for a few reasons. First, Aisling Franciosi, who plays Lyanna, started following him on Twitter when the show was in production in September. Secondly, he also looks the part.

However, last year, fans were led to believe it was actually I See Stars vocalist Devin Oliver who got the role. Oliver shared an Instagram post in September with the caption, "I may or may not have made an appearance in Game of Thrones season 7." Despite the stir that one photo caused, it was later revealed that the image was actually from a music video the band was filming, and not from the set of GoT.

Editor’s Note: The Instagram post has since been deleted.

Despite this, fans still believe Oliver could be playing Rhaegar, while others have completely jumped ship to Scolding. Either way, if Rhaegar really does appearing in the Season 7 finale, it'll be great to know, once and for all, that Jon is actually a Targaryen. But will Jon finally find out the truth as well? Because that needs to happen ASAP.
