Before you could even finish saying the name of Taylor Swift's latest single — "New Romantics" — it was buh-bye Calvin Harris and hello Tom Hiddleston for the 26-year-old pop star. Insiders told People that age played a factor — Harris is 32 — but then, age must just be a number as Swift reportedly appears head over heels for Hiddleston, 35. Is Tom Hiddleston the oldest person Taylor Swift has dated? Believe it or not, Hiddleston isn't Swift's oldest boyfriend in terms of age. You have to go all the way back to 2009 when Swift was dating fellow singer John Mayer.

Actually, can I dial it back for just a second? It feels like it was just yesterday that Swift was showing off her gorgeous golden locket on Instagram — a one year anniversary gift from Harris in March. And it may as well have been yesterday, too: news of Swift and Harris's split only just broke earlier this month. Even so, Swift was spotted dancing with Hiddleston at the Met Gala in May. No word if there was overlap between her two beaus at the time (and, really, it's no one's business).

Right, so, back to Mayer. Swift and Mayer dated from December 2009 to February 2010. A brief relationship, for sure, but more startling to fans was their age difference at the time. Swift was just 19 years old when she dated Mayer, who was 31 at the time. Their three-month romance spilled over onto the radio, as Swift's song break up song "Dear John" left Mayer "humiliated" by her references to him in the song. "It was a really lousy thing to do," Mayer told Rolling Stone in 2010. Mayer wouldn't let Swift have the last word (or lyric, as it were) when he released "Paper Doll" — a song totally about Swift — in 2013.

It's clear that Swift has no qualms about dating men of all ages. Hiddleston and Swift have a nine-year age difference between them and accomplished careers in their own right. Besides John Mayer, Swift had a four-month-long relationship with actor Jake Gyllenhaal from 2010 to 2011. At the time, there was a 9-year age gap between the two. Swift's 2014 song "Bad Blood" is about Gyllenhaal, supposedly.

It was only a month after her breakup with Gyllenhaal that Swift started dating Harris. Sound familiar? It'll be interesting to see if Swift's next ex-boyfriend song will be about Harris.

There's no indication yet whether this will be a long-lasting relationship for Swift or just a brief fling — and it doesn't matter anyway, because Taylor Swift can date as many men as she likes for however long she desires. But is Hiddleston the real deal? While Hiddleston and Swift were spotted smooching in Rhode Island last week, neither one has yet to confirm that they're actually dating. Even so, it's clear that there's something going on between these two New Romantics.
