Kim Kardashian's 2017 Met Gala Gown Was Soft & Beautiful

by Kaitlin Kimont

Last year she took the red carpet by storm when she arrived in a silver metallic, long-sleeve Balmain gown, and Kim Kardashian’s Met Gala dress this year also did not disappoint. The reality star has been stunning viewers at the annual fashion event in New York City since 2013, when she and husband Kanye West made their debut as a couple and the mom of two was pregnant with her now 3-year-old daughter, North. This year, though, the "Famous" rapper wasn’t by her side after reportedly deciding not to attend the coveted party, leaving Kardashian to fly solo at the 2017 Met Gala.

According to E! News, this change of events didn't mean there was any trouble in paradise. “He and Kim are doing fine. He has been taking time off and is totally supportive of Kim attending,” a source told E! News, adding that the rapper was at home in Los Angeles with the couple’s children, North and 1-year-old son Saint.

Although the pair have been attending the Met Gala for years together, Kardashian had no problem stunning the red carpet photogs yet again in her own while wearing a white, form-fitting, off-the-shoulder Vivienne Westwood number. Arriving to the ball just after 8 p.m. Eastern Time, Kardashian completed her simple and chic look with a sleek, straight hairstyle that off-set the otherwise romantic ensemble.

At the 2016 Met Gala, Kardashian walked the red carpet with her husband. The stylish couple wore metallic ensembles designed by Balmain to match the theme of last year's soiree: "Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology."

At the time, the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star teased her followers on Twitter before the big event, saying that her look would certainly be "on theme." And it was indeed.

The year prior, Kardashian wore a floor-length sheer Cavalli gown complete with delicate lace patchwork and a long feathery train. The daring look was stunning, of course, but many were quick to point out that her 2015 Met Gala dress looked very similar to Beyoncé's when she attended the exclusive party in 2012. There has been some potential drama between the two of them in recent years so fans' suspicion of Kardashian throwing some shade wasn't necessarily out of nowhere.

Kardashian did say at the time that she was inspired by Cher's first-ever Met Gala gown, writing on Instagram: "I just met her and told her this photo was my inspiration for my dress tonight!" Whatever the case may have been, both looks were jaw-dropping.

As per usual, Kardashian's 2017 Met Gala gown totally fit the night's theme: "Rei Kawakubo/Comme des Garçons: Art of the In-Between." And although she attended the event without her husband by her side to complement her look, her simple ensemble is undoubtedly one that will be raved about for some time — or, if nothing else, one that will stand the ultimate test of time.
