For the past two months, I have been eschewing the pumpkin spice announcements. Every time I read about a pumpkin spice candy of any flavor I scoffed hard. There's a time and place, guys. Even for this very basic white girl who truly adores all things autumn. But now that I'm snug in my furry slippers, I'm ready to embrace all things pumpkin, but most especially these Krispy Kreme pumpkin spice donuts. Mark your calendars, folks, because they're only going to be available for one day.
According to a Krispy Kreme press release, Pumpkin Spice Original Glaze donuts will be available for Sept. 8, and that day only, at participating stores throughout the United States and Canada. I'm not sure why Krispy Kreme has decided to torment us with this limited edition donut, but perhaps that, in itself, is its own precious ode to autumn. Beautiful, short-lived, reminding us of the earth's precious bounty of color and taste, before we are forced to retreat back to reality. To the cold, colorless winter, where we will only have our vague memories of pumpkin spice to cheer us as we huddle under blankets and watch the snow fall relentlessly outside our window.

Now that you know Krispy Kreme is treating us to pumpkin spice donuts for one day only, and that day is less than a week away, it's important to be prepared. I recommend calling in sick to work to camp out at your local Krispy Kreme outlet the night before. Because you simply can't be too careful in times like these, can you?
Also don't forget to to enjoy your donut with a side of Pumpkin Spice Latte. Now that the leaves are turning, let's just go all out.
Of course, this isn't the first time Krispy Kreme has tortured us with one of those one-day only events. Anyone remember getting to eat a delicious chocolate glazed donut on Aug. 21 to coincide with the solar eclipse? Because I don't... I missed it. And word on the street is, they were delicious.
Thankfully some donuts are going the distance at Krispy Kreme; in August the company launched a donut, according to the most mouth-watering press release in history:
"filled with a Reese’s Peanut Butter Kreme filling, dipped in chocolate icing and topped with a chocolate and peanut butter drizzle, and Reese’s Mini Peanut Butter chips and peanuts."
So try to remember, everyone; as we get our fill of pumpkin spice lattes/donuts/candies/body scrubs/candles over the next few months, take comfort in the knowledge that we'll always have chocolate and peanut butter. A flavor combination that knows no season.
