Littlefinger On 'Game Of Thrones' & Severus Snape Are The Same Person, & Here's How

by Zakiya Jamal

When it comes to Petyr "Littlefinger" Baelish, it's hard to decide if you like him or hate him. He's smart, conniving, and morally ambiguous. You can't trust him, but sometimes you have to rely on him. Sansa learned this when she had to trust him to come through with the Knights of the Vale during the "Battle of the Bastards." And come through he did. But does that make Littlefinger a good guy or a bad guy on Game of Thrones?

If you're a Harry Potter fan you probably felt this same confusion when thinking about Severus Snape. Snape was often seen as the villain, but in the end it turned out he was actually a good guy. Or was he? Some fans still can't decide but one thing is clear, Littlefinger and Snape have a lot in common. It's almost like they're long lost brothers.

Fans have made connections between Harry Potter and Game of Thrones in the past, and with so many actors from Harry Potter making their way to Westeros, it's not surprising that the two get compared often. But there's no greater comparison than that between Littlefinger and Snape. Their backstories are even similar! Here's just a few clues that make it clear these two are one and the same.

They Both Fell In Love With A Redhead

For Littlefinger, it was Catelyn Stark, for Snape it was Lily Potter. Both Littlefinger and Snape fell in love with a redhead when they were young and for both of them that love was unrequited.

They Both Look Out For The Children Of Those They Loved

Although neither Littlefinger nor Snape got to be with the women they loved, they still tried their best to help them and they did so by helping their children. Snape was always a suspicious character, but in the seventh book it was revealed that Snape was always on Harry's side for Lily's sake. We'll never forget how often Harry was told that he had his "mother's eyes" and how Snape mentioned it again in his last moments.

Similarly, Littlefinger has always been shady, and he definitely messed up when he gave Sansa to Ramsay Bolton. Still, Littlefinger does care about Sansa (maybe more than he should) and that mainly comes from his love for Catelyn. Showing up with the Knights of the Vale to help Sansa was just another sign that he's still doing what he can to look out for her.

They're Morally Ambiguous

We didn't know if Snape could be trusted or not throughout most of the Harry Potter series . From the very first book, Snape was posed as an evil character but by the end it was revealed that he was actually helping Harry and it was Professor Quirell that was working for Voldemort.

The same could be said for Littlefinger. He's probably the shadiest character in all of Westeeros. He was working for the Lannisters, but now that he used the Knights of the Vale to help Sansa and Jon take back Winterfell, it's clear he's switched teams.

You Don't Know If You Should Love Them Or Hate Them

The thing about morally ambiguous characters is that they do things you love and they do things you hate. Both Snape and Littlefinger are this way. Everyone hated Littlefinger when he let Sansa go to Ramsay, but we all loved him again when he came through with the Knight of the Vale. Likewise, everyone hated Snape for killing Dumbledore, but he made his way into our good graces again when it was revealed that he was actually a triple agent the whole time.
