Twitter Is Celebrating Mindy Kaling's Baby With The Most Incredible Memes & GIFs

by Jo Yurcaba

The day hath finally arrived! No, I am not talking about the day that Khloe Kardashian or Kylie Jenner confirm or deny their pregnancies (that is a mythical day that I'm convinced will never actually come). I'm talking about E! News' report on Tuesday that Mindy Kaling has give birth to her first child — a daughter — on Friday! Yes, the day is here, and that is the only time I will ever use two exclamation points in consecutive sentences back to back, I promise. So, in honor of this incredible day, the best Mindy Kaling baby memes have hit Twitter, and they are everything Kaling fans have ever needed.

It's unclear who exactly confirmed the news about Kaling giving birth to E!, and Kaling's representative did not immediately return Romper's request for comment regarding the report. E! News also broke the first news of Kaling's pregnancy in July, and Kaling later confirmed the news in a TODAY Show appearance, saying, according to E!:

I'd like to be the fun mom, I know I'm gonna be the dorky mom. So if I can be kind of fun too, I think that would be nice.

So far, details about Mindy's daughter are trickling out slowly. Her name is reportedly Katherine, according to People, though it's unclear from where exactly she got inspiration for the name. What is clear is that people are freaking the f*ck out on Twitter, in the form of expletives like the one I just used, but also via memes and GIFs from Kaling's best TV appearances.

Some people even sent personalized videos to Kaling, where they got pretty, um, emotional:

And of course, there were the obvious memes and GIFs that were shoutouts to her incredible appearance in The Office:

OMG, and this person's corgi was excited. I believe this corgi wins the prize for best reaction to Katherine's birth yet:

A lot of people were obsessed with the fact that Kaling gave her daughter her last name instead of the last name of her father. Though, given that Kaling still hasn't publicly named the father, this just makes sense to me? But I do love any excuse to rally for feminism!

That's probably been my favorite aspect of Kaling's pregnancy (other than the fact that it's a decision she's incredibly excited about): she has refused to name or even discuss the father. Not only has this pissed off people who think they're entitled to know everything about a celebrity's life, but it also triggered a lot of antiquated ideas about whether women can or should decide to have children alone. In July, People reported that Kaling had just started telling friends and family about her pregnancy but that, “She is not telling anyone, not even close friends, who the father is.”

You go, girl. Talk about taking the assumption that women have to be married, engaged, or at least dating someone and literally throwing it away. It was a badass move that served as a "f*ck off" too heteronormative tropes that tell women how they have to live their lives.

Kaling's entire pregnancy was pretty uncharacteristic. She didn't talk a lot about her bump or about her pregnancy. Though she did share how excited she was to become a mom, she didn't glamorize the decision. However, costar on The Mindy Project Ed Weeks, who plays Dr. Jeremy Reed, said the pregnancy couldn't have come at a more meaningful time since they were just wrapping up filming for the show's last season, according to Vanity Fair:

We were so thrilled for her. The show started as a tribute to her mother, who very sadly passed away just as the show is being picked up, and it ends with her having a daughter of her own. It’s a lot. When she reminded us all of that, we all cried in the final table read. I mean, Jesus, life! It makes some very interesting and beautiful patterns sometimes.

OK, well, um, I'm crying. I'm going to look through these GIFs again now to pick myself back up. Congratulations to an incredible comedian, actor, and writer.
