People Want Donald Trump Jr. To Tweet The "Pee Tape"

On Tuesday, Donald Trump Jr. released a transcript of emails he exchanged with Rob Goldstone, a publicist who wanted to set up a meeting with a Russian "government attorney" to possibly get intelligence on Hillary Clinton. The emails don't show that Trump Jr. did any thing illegal per se, but the conversation did contradict his statements from over the weekend, in which he alleged that he didn't know who he was meeting with or why. But while the Trump administration worked to smooth out the finer points of the story in the press on Tuesday, it seemed people on Twitter wanted Donald Jr. to tweet the infamous "pee tape" instead.

And really, it's not a bad idea, given that the younger Trump probably wants to distract people from his Russia meeting. The "pee tape" of course refers to a dossier that was allegedly compiled by a British Intelligence officer, Christopher Steele. It reportedly contains intelligence about President Trump and his interactions with the Russians leading up to the 2016 election.

According to BuzzFeed News, the dossier contains a specific reference to a tape of Donald Trump allegedly asking to be peed on by sex workers in a Russian hotel. Trump has vehemently denied the existence of any tape and there is no confirmation that it exists. (The majority of the contents in the dossier have not yet been confirmed either.) But people on Twitter are still hopeful. And if there was ever a time to release the fabled tape, well, it arguably would be right this very minute, at least as far as Trump Jr. is concerned.

In reality, this situation with Trump Jr. is pretty serious, or at least worth investigating. And mocking a man for an alleged sexual fetish is wrong. Also, again, there is no evidence that a tape like that exists, outside of the allegations in the dossier. (Although former FBI Director James Comey did seem to suggest that the dossier in general does exist.) But it is a very hilarious solution to the younger Trump's problems at the moment.

However, as many have suggested, even the release of something as scandalous as a "pee tape" likely wouldn't make any of Trump's staunchest supporters waver. So in the scheme of things, even if it existed, it might not change a thing for anyone — including Trump Jr. Regardless, it's a strangely humorous thought.

The emails in question show Goldstone telling Trump Jr. that he knew a high level prosecutor in Russia with information about Clinton back in July. Goldstone wrote, "This is obviously very high level and sensitive information but is part of Russia and its government's support for Mr. Trump." Trump Jr. responded, "If it's what you say I love it."

Trump Jr., Jared Kushner, and then campaign advisor Paul Manaforte then later met with Russian lawyer Natalia Veselnitskaya who later denied having any intelligence to offer the Trump campaign. Trump Jr. said this weekend that during the meeting it was immediately clear that any information Veselnitskaya did have wasn't useful to the campaign.

On Tuesday, President Trump released a statement about his son's emails through White House Deputy Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders. Trump wrote, "My son is a high-quality person and I applaud his transparency. Beyond that I'm going to have to refer everything beyond this matter to Don Jr.'s counsel and outside counsel."

There's a lot going on with the Trump administration at the moment, so maybe Twitter's right. Don Jr., have anything else to release? It might not matter, but at least it would take the heat off for a little bit.
