by Suzanne Samin

Belgium is in shock after three explosions ripped through the city of Brussels on Tuesday, leaving as many as 28 dead. People all over the world are understandably be anxious to know their loved ones living and visiting the city are safe. Thankfully, Facebook has activated check-ins for Brussels.

(Update: ISIS has claimed responsibility for the terror attacks in Brussels Tuesday.)

Users in the affected area can visit Facebook's safety check-in page, where they can mark themselves and others safe. Once they do that, they will be added to a list under the check in screen, and their "safe" status will be displayed in their friends' news feeds.

Facebook's check-ins proved to be a vital resource during the Paris attacks in November last year, the first time the feature had been used for a non-natural disaster event.
