People Think Miley Cyrus Is Pregnant At The Oscars & Twitter Is Freaking Out

Miley Cyrus graced Elton John's Oscars viewing party in a Barbie-pink gown with Liam Hemsworth on her arm, but there was another conspicuous element in the cute photos they posed for together: contours which led people to think Miley Cyrus is pregnant. The internet loves nothing more than getting to work diagnosing baby bumps, and photos from the Oscars party gave Twitter users plenty to dissect.

The Elton John AIDS Foundation has been throwing an annual Oscars bash for over 25 years, and in addition to Cyrus and Hemsworth, stars at this year's party, which involves pre- and post-broadcast festivities, included Allison Janney, Kumail Nanjiani, Sharon Stone, Jim Carrey, Evan Rachel Wood, Caitlyn Jenner, Katy Perry, Ellen DeGeneres, and Denzel Washington, according to Variety. The Roca brothers of El Celler de Can Roca in Spain provided the food (this detail is important in a moment), Bulgari jewels were part of the auction haul, and the party was sponsored by MAC and American Airlines, which probably made for some sweet swag bags.

But eagle-eyed Twitter users were hyper-focused on what looked like the tiniest of baby bumps under Cyrus' gown. It's difficult to tell whether the draping of the dress was just causing an illusion, and the curve seems much more pronounced in some photos than in others. What is clear is that an unfair fascination with women's bodies is still in season, despite progress on society's double standards. Commenting on a photo of Cyrus in a pink satin dress at the party, Twitter user Inara wrote: "is it just me or does Miley look pregnant idk."

Cyrus responded to pregnancy rumors back in November, as Teen Vogue reported at the time, shutting down any possible speculation on Twitter. She tweeted a screenshot of a Snapchat report about her supposed pregnancy, captioning it "RUDE" and "not pregnant, just eating a sh*t ton of tofurkey." (The story came out right around Thanksgiving, season of food babies.) So she definitely wasn't pregnant in November and apparently took umbrage with suggestions to the contrary.

She and her ex-fiancé Hemsworth got back together in 2016 after breaking up three years earlier. Last September, she told The Sun on Sunday that she had no plans to get re-engaged:

I don't envision marriage. I'm 24. I hope I get to live a little bit more. I have too much living to do [before I get married]...I didn’t know [we’d get back together]. I’m so crazy I have no idea. But I had something in my heart, it never felt like it was really over. We kept a great friendship really private. It’s good for people to have that space to grow individually. Otherwise when you’re with someone from 16 until 24, you grow into the same person. We got to become individuals. I hope everything stays the same. It feels like nothing changed except we grew up a lot.

But that didn't stop Twitter from hoping against hope that a Hemsworth-Cyrus baby was in the works.

Given Cyrus' firm response regarding a possible pregnancy just a few months ago, it seems unlikely that she got visibly pregnant in the time that's passed. Plus, she seems genuinely committed to enjoying more of her 20s free from the responsibility of juggling children before starting a family. It's a sign that the one-time Disney starlet who got engaged at 19 years old has firm ideas about what she wants for herself and her partner.

Unconfirmed reports from anonymous sources said that Cyrus gave up drinking alcohol and smoking weed last year in order to "prepare" her body for pregnancy, but obviously those stories should be taken with many a grain of salt. If she did decide to start a family, we would be thrilled, but the ceaseless judgement of women's bodies needs to stop, pregnant or no.

If and when Cyrus and Hemsworth do feel ready for a family, it looks like they have a ton of support from fans. But for the time being, we'll just have to be patient. Ultimately, it isn't really any of our business what they choose to do.
