Pink Is The Mom Friend You Wish You Had

by Jenn Rose

It's hard to explain what it's like to be a parent. "It's awesome and terrible but usually mostly awesome" doesn't really have a nice ring to it. Most parents can agree that you don't truly get it until you have kids. Enter the mom friend. She's not the Pinterest mom projecting a picture-perfect life, but she's not exclusively complaining about her kids on Facebook, either. She's real on every level, about the good, the bad, and the WTF. And no one is more "mom friend" than Pink, award winning musician. And these Pink quotes about motherhood capture the ideal woman you want in your life: she's blunt, she's inspirational, and above all, she's just like you.

Motherhood is a lot of things, some good, some bad. If you're lucky, the good outweighs the bad, if not in actual minutes and hours, then at least in overall results. Neither aspect should be off-limits, though. Moms share the good because they're proud, or they want to brighten people's days with their kids' sweet faces and cute videos. But a good mom friend will also share the bad, so others know that they're not going through it alone. And honestly, some of the mildly bad can be pretty hilarious as long as it's happening to someone else. Turning your baby's poop explosion into comic relief for your buddies? That's truly selfless. Here are just a few examples of Pink keeping it real:

"No one tells you how hard it is to be a parent!"

It may be something of a cliche, but it's true. You simply can't pack every possible scenario into one parenting book. But Pink told Redbook that she learned a valuable lesson from her childhood: "My mom took all of my behavior personally. Everything I did, she thought it was an act of rebellion against her. But it was just me being me. And that's something I want to post on every mirror in my house: This is not about you!"

"The most important jewels..."

"The most important jewels that will ever be wrapped around your neck are the arms of your children," Pink posted on Twitter. "Good job Mamas." Maybe you don't have a designer purse or a luxury car, but a child's love can't be bought; it has to be earned, and it's hard work.

"It’s very healing. It’s a miracle."

In 2015, Pink told People that she'd become hardened and jaded over time, but having her daughter changed that. "When you see this little kid, and you get to watch them through infancy to toddler to little person, it’s amazing. You see how you were." Also, you're reminded how freakin' delicious a PB&J is, which is also pretty sweet.

"Failing beautifully"

“Yeah my kid rides her bike inside," Pink captioned an Instagram pic. "Without clothes. And helmets. While I ignore her and look at my phone." No mom is perfect, and the more that admit that, the easier it will be for everyone.

"Parents- check your cherries."

Another important mom friend duty is giving out advice. When ordering a drink for my son at a restaurant that serves alcohol, I always take a sip to make sure it wasn't mixed up with someone's booze. But who would think to check the garnish? Pink shared this mom-hack on Twitter after her daughter was served whiskey soaked maraschinos with her soda water. Yikes!

"I will fight."

During an appearance on a British talk show, Pink told host Alan Carr about a stranger who expressed disgust after witnessing her breastfeeding in public – with a cover! "I was like, 'You didn't get enough hugs when you were little,'" she said, according to Today. Her husband jokingly admonished her for "starting fights in restaurants," but Pink wasn't deterred. "I will fight," she laughed. "Hold my baby." The most dangerous animals are the ones protecting their cubs.

"Instasick"

One more tweet from Pink for the road: "I thought my daughter had something important to say, but nope. She just wanted to cough INTO my mouth. Directly INTO MY THROAT." Honestly, I've heard that story so many times from so many parents. Just accept that you're getting every cold ever, from now on.

Sharing the good and the bad, breast pumping while on a world tour, Pink is the kind of mom that other moms can see themselves in, but also aspire to. In other words, the perfect mom friend.
