Prince George Memes About His Brother's Birth Are So Hilarious

Happy birthday to royal baby no. 3! On Monday morning, the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, and Prince William welcomed their third child, a boy, according to two tweets from Kensington Palace. While the average human may simply note the baby's birthday as April 23, others noticed that the royal couple's son was born on a pretty notable holiday: St. George's Day. The new baby's older brother is, of course, Prince George, who will likely become king one day. So naturally, Prince George memes about his brother's birth have already emerged.

Every year, April 23 marks St. George's Day, which celebrates George, the mythical patron saint of England, as explained by The Independent. The holiday is most widely celebrated in England and by Christians. On April 23 in the year 303 AD, George, a Roman soldier and dragon slayer, was beheaded (after being imprisoned and publicly tortured) because he would not renounce his faith. George is viewed as a martyr because of the way he bravely faced his death, and in 1327, King Edward III dubbed George the patron saint of England.

Calling their son "George" was a natural choice for Middleton and Prince William, considering the history of St. George, as well as the multiple King Georges who have reigned over England. However, if they knew they'd be giving birth to another son five years later on St. George's Day, perhaps they would have saved the name!

As soon as news of the currently-unnamed new baby's birth was announced, fans took to Twitter to comment on the irony.

Some people took advantage of the sassy facial expression Prince George has been known to make.

Others celebrated the irony.

Some suggested that Middleton and Prince William just use the name George again.

And some had dragon jokes for that niche St. George's Day audience.

Not to mention, St. George's Day and the anniversary of William Shakespeare's death always fall on the same day. (Side note: the royal baby's dad's name is William, just like Shakespeare's. Hmm...)

Kensington Palace shared the news that Middleton gave birth to a boy via a tweet on Monday, which read:

Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 1101hrs. The baby weighs 8lbs 7oz. The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well.

Kensington Palace also noted that "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry," as well as other family members are already excited about the news.

The birth announcement was also confirmed on a ceremonial easel displayed outside of Buckingham Palace on Monday, which the the royal family's Twitter account posted photos and videos of.

For all those joking that Middleton and Prince William should name the baby George Jr., Shakespeare, and Dragon, you won't have to wait too much longer to find out the name. Prince George was born on July 22, 2013, and his name was announced to the public two days later, as reported by the BBC. Princess Charlotte was born on May 2, 2015, and her name was also revealed two days later, as noted by Metro.

Not to mention, there have been many theories about what the royal baby could be named. Arthur, Albert, and James topped bookies' lists earlier this month. So while Middleton and Prince William will likely wait until Wednesday to share the new royal baby's name, fans are definitely relieved that the mom of three and her new son are doing well — though Prince George may be a little less enthused.
