'Star Wars' Fans React To Oscars Snubs With A Lot of Anger & Force

by Kimberly Zapata

Even though Star Wars: The Force Awakens is just a few million (OK, a few hundred million) dollars away from becoming the top grossing film of all time, that doesn't mean it's destined for an Oscars sweep. In fact, while the film was nominated for five technical awards — Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects, Film Editing, and John Williams for Original Score — Star Wars: The Force Awakens wasn't nominated for Best Picture.

Truth be told, I'm not surprised. Most of the films in the Star Wars franchise haven't seen much award show success, although the first Star Wars film, A New Hope, did earn 11 Oscar nominations back in 1978, including nods in the Best Picture, Best Director, Best Supporting Actor, and Best Original Screenplay categories. And since the seventh and newest installment in the infamous series really felt like that original flick, it would have been nice to see it A Force Awakens earn a little gold dude (or at least sit alongside other honorees, like Mad Max and The Reverent). Hell, I would have been happy if they gave it a nod for Best Costume Design.

And it seems I am not alone, as many Star Wars fans have taken to Twitter to express their outrage, or simply their disappointment:

But some feel the film received the nominations it deserved:

Regardless, the force is strong with this movie — and the franchise — and I'm willing to bet Star Wars will be OK, whether it gets a statue or not.
