9 Children's Thanksgiving Books To Add To Your Bedtime Routine

by Kristin Manna

With the world as crazy as it is, teaching your child the importance of gratitude is crucial. A lot of children grow thinking of Thanksgiving as turkey day, and they aren't wrong, but there's so much more to it than that. Not only is it about a day about giving thanks, but it's also a time for everyone to put aside their differences and come together, and to be grateful for what they have, including each other — actually, a lot of adults could relearn this lesson, too. Luckily, there are plenty of Thanksgiving books for toddlers which do a pretty good job at teaching these lessons to our kids. If we can instill in our children that we should appreciate each others' unique differences, then there is there is hope in our future for everyone to accept each other.

There are plenty of children's Thanksgiving books on the market, including ones that feature some of our favorite characters, including Curious George, the mischievous monkey and Charlie Brown, the curious boy, and they all teach kids the importance of being grateful. Pete The Cat is my personal favorite children's book series, and there's a Thanksgiving edition about this cat's adventures as well. So grab one of these titles, and make this your go-to bedtime story this Thanksgiving season.

1

A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving

Not only will your child love A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving ($18, Amazon), but you will too. If you can't get enough of this popular character and his crew, watch movie too with your little one. Seeing the book come to life will make reading it extra fun.

2

Pete The Cat: The First Thanksgiving

Like I said before Pete the Cat is my favorite children's series. In Pete The Cat: The First Thanksgiving ($7; Amazon), Pete gets the lead in his school play which can be very scary. But thankfully his inner star shines when he takes the stage.

3

Thanksgiving Is For Giving Thanks

This is on the top of Amazon's bestsellers list. Thanksgiving Is For Giving ($4, Amazon) reminds everyone what the most critical thing of Thanksgiving is: being grateful. I know a few adults who could also use the reminder to practice gratitude daily in their own lives. If you do too, you might want to stock up on several copies.

4

'Twas The Night Before Thanksgiving

This is a sweet parody of 'Twas the Night Before Christmas, and features kids and turkeys up to a bunch of shenanigans the day before the holiday. When the little ones find out the turkeys' doom, they smuggle all the birds home and celebrate the holiday together with a turkey-free feast. 'Twas the Night Before Thanksgiving ($6, Amazon) is the perfect book for a vegetarian family.

5

The Littlest Pilgrim

The Littlest Pilgrim ($4, Amazon) is a book about Mini the pilgrim, who, you guessed it, is tiny. You follow Mini through her struggles of being too small to help with Thanksgiving but ends on a happy note. Turns out you're never too little to make friends.

6

I Know An Old Lady Who Swallowed A Pie

I Know an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Pie ($7, Amazon) is a book about being gluttony. This is a hilarious book that any child would love. It's funny, cute, and the illustrations are fantastic.

7

Turkey Trouble

What would you do if you knew you were about to be someone's dinner? Turkey Trouble ($8, Amazon) is a hilarious book. After attempts of trying not to be eaten, this turkey comes up with a brilliant idea that you don't see coming.

8

Thank You, Sarah

We all need to say, "thank you," to Sarah Joseph Hale. She's the reason that Thanksgiving is a national holiday. After 35 years petitioning and writing letters to Congress, Hale finally got President Abraham Lincoln's attention and he soon signed the Thanksgiving Proclamation, declaring the holiday. Thank You, Sarah ($8, Amazon) details this impressive story.

9

Happy Thanksgiving, Curious George

Curious George is a classic children's book character. This adorable monkey does what he does best in Happy Thanksgiving, Curious Georgehe stirs up some trouble.
