'OITNB' Season 5 Finally Has A Premiere Date!

Just in case you needed one more reason to get excited for summer, Netflix has announced the Orange Is the New Black Season 5 premiere date, meaning it won't be too long until we're reunited with our favorite ladies of Litchfield once more. While news about specific details about the season still remain somewhat scarce, the streaming service will be debuting all 13 episodes of the fifth installment on June 9, which I'll admit still feels like a lifetime away right now, but as this series has more than proven throughout the years — it's always more than worth the wait.

Season 4 ended on a tragic note as the inmates grappled with the shocking and heartbreaking death of Poussey Washington and the unwillingness of the prison staff to point the finger at who was to blame. This caused the inmates to riot and left Daya holding a gun. How will the rest of that scene play out? That has yet to be seen, however, it's comforting to know that regardless of how that goes down, Orange Is the New Black's future is secured. Back in 2016, Netflix opted to pick up the series for not one, not two, but three additional seasons, meaning we have all of Seasons 5, 6, and 7 to look forward to. If that isn't a reason to celebrate then I don't know what is! Check out the quick teaser for Season 5 below:

OITNB always does a perfect job of blending comedy with some truly gut-wrenching and oh-so-real moments that give fans a look at some of the hardships women face in prison. Throw in the stellar acting and superb writing and it's no wonder Netflix has so much faith in the show. It really is one of a kind.

So cancel all of your summer plans on that Friday, because when June 9 rolls around, you'll want to sentence yourself to a weekend on the couch and I can't wait to see what the series has in store.
