'Stranger Things' Season 2 Just Upped Its Premiere Date

by Laura Broman

The wait is over. Stranger Things had barely given fans time to get over the awesomeness that was its inaugural season and start pining for more when it released its Halloween Season 2 return date back in February. But it turns out that the Stranger Things Season 2 premiere date is happening earlier than expected: Netflix will be dropping the second season on Friday, Oct. 27.

Everyone's favorite '80s sci-fi/horror throwback is finally returning to our hearts and our screens. And while it's still going to be a few months, at least it's coming a few days earlier that Netflix originally promised. That gives fans all of four days to binge-watch the entire second season (which, let's be real, we'll all probably do in one night) and throw together a perfect Stranger Things-themed costume for the actual night of Halloween.

The official Season 2 description offers up just a little taste of what fans have to look forward to in the coming installment, and from the sounds of it, things are about to get even stranger: "It’s 1984 and the citizens of Hawkins, Indiana, are still reeling from the horrors of the Demogorgon and the secrets of Hawkins Lab. Will Byers has been rescued from the Upside Down, but a bigger, sinister entity still threatens those who survived.” So you better believe his troubles are still very far from being over.

Actor Finn Wolfhard (Mike) told TVLine in a recent interview that, “Something happens to Will in the first couple of episodes that’s very, very disturbing.” As if that kid hasn't been through enough. OK, the Demogorgon was scary, but what about that 200-foot high evil spider in the promotional poster? That's a monster that could stick with you.

Speaking with the podcast Golderby, showrunner Shawn Levy promised listeners that the "forces of evil" at work in Season 2 "make that Demogorgon look quaint in retrospect." Check out this incredibly short teaser, released June 30 at Comic-Con in San Diego, for a better look at that giant spider... or whatever the heck it is.

Strap in — there's still a long way to go before Oct. 27. But hey, that just means you've got more time to rewatch the first season a few dozen times, dig out all your vintage '80s clothes, stock up on Eggo waffles, and get very excited.

Season 2 of Stranger Things will be available for streaming on Oct. 27.
