There's Now A Star Wars Baby Name Generator & The Names Are Lowkey Perfect

by Mishal Ali Zafar

I think I can comfortably say that Star Wars fans are some of the most loyal and committed fans in the world. People have been hooked since the first movie released in 1977, and it has had a growing following since. Whether you are a hardcore fan, or just love watching the movies, you can appreciate the significance the franchise has brought into popular culture. So it’s not surprising that you might incorporate that appreciation into your own life, like when choosing a name for your baby. Well you’re in luck, because there’s now a Star Wars baby name generator for all you nerds.

I’m a proud nerd, and I can’t get enough of my beloved Star Wars. I grew up in the '80s, when Star Wars was the end all, be all of futuristic space stories, and I made sure to introduce my kids to the movies at a young age. I have girls, and I wanted to make sure that they could appreciate science fiction, and the innovation it inspires, without feeling like it was a boy's thing. Luckily, with strong female characters like Leia, Rey, and Jyn, my girls got to see and admire women in leadership positions who kick butt. This is why Star Wars is immensely popular — it has the ability to inspire people across the board. So it’s no wonder that parents would want to name their kids after the franchise’s amazing characters.

When looking for a Star Wars inspired name for your baby, you may think that names like Luke, Leia, or Hans are the obvious choice, but this generator will give you a whole bunch of options from the Star Wars universe you may not have thought of. Powered by Play Like Mum, the Star Wars Baby Name Generator will give you a baby name with the click of a button — all you need to do is pick which sex you're looking for. And because Star Wars names are actually pretty nice, this generator can give you some great baby name ideas.

The generator is pretty simple to use. All you need to do is pick boy or girl, and then click on the button that says “Generate Name”. The generator will give you a great Star Wars baby name, and if you want to explore your options, you can keep clicking on the button that says “Not A Fan? Try Again” until you find a name that you really like.

If you take some time out to research the names you get with the generator, you’ll find that many of them are actual names with linguistic origins including Sanskrit, Persian, and Swahili. So along with being a name of a Star Wars character, the names may also have history and meaning. For example, when I clicked on the generator for a girl name, I got “Aayla”, after Jedi Knight, Aayla Secura, but it turns out the name also has Hebrew and Turkish roots.

A great boy name that the generator gave me was “Ackbar” after the character Gial Ackbar who was a revolutionary soldier and leader during the Clone Wars. The name Ackbar however, has origins in Arabic, and means “greater”. So when picking a Star Wars baby name, you may be inspired by its actual meaning, or the character it is referring to.

There are some Star Wars names that were solely made for the stories. When clicking through girl names, I got the name “Darth” after the ever popular character, Darth Vader. I did a little digging and found out that according to Force Material, Darth was just a variation of the word “Dark” that George Lucas came up with. But I have to say, even though the name Darth has no historical or linguistic etymology, it would be a great (and badass) name for any little girl.

So whether you plan on sticking to a more conventional Star Wars name like Aimee, or you get a kick out of imagining your little girl named Darth entering the playground in all her glory, the Star Wars name generator has got you covered. Just click and choose, and let the force be with you.
