This Luke Skywalker Kids' Landspeeder Is Totally Worth $500

Hot pink Barbie car convertibles, miniature Bentleys, and battery-operated Jeeps were once the it toy to have as a kid. But those are old news now and little ones from all over will be putting this Luke Skywalker kids’ landspeeder on their wish lists instead. Here's why: It looks beyond realistic, has an interactive dashboard with lights and real movie sounds, goes a safe 5 mph, and is designed to fit two kids. But there is one minor caveat: It’ll set parents back about $500.

The battery-powered Star Wars vehicle was just revealed at San Diego Comic-Con by Radio Flyer and excitement is understandably at an all-time high. The toy car is modeled after the "sand-pocked and sun-faded" X-34 craft from Star Wars: A New Hope, according to the toy's description. And if your little one isn’t as much of a Star Wars fan as you are, there’s time to get them amped up — and save up a little extra cash — too.

Aside from looking beyond cool, the Landspeeder has some pretty fun features. For starters, it comes with a 12V rechargeable battery that will provide your kids with around five hours of driving time. And it has a gear shift that allows them to go 5 mph forward and 2 mph in reverse. It also includes dialogue from Luke Skywalker himself, with phrases such as "Look it, there's a Droid on the scanner and "Hit the accelerator!"

If you're sold, you might wondering if you'll be able at the take it for a spin when — for example — your little one is napping. But unless you weigh 130 pounds or less, you're sadly out of luck. (The 62-inch vehicle is designed for children aged 4 years and older.)

The Landspeeder will be sold at Toys “R” Us and parents can pre-orders theirs now, with an estimated shipping date on Sept. 5 of this year. While shipping is technically "free," there is a "shipping surcharge" of $49.99 added to the total as it's a large and heavy item. You may, however, be able to bypass that extra fee if you can arrange to pick it up from the nearest store when it's in stock.

It's certainly an expensive toy, but if you have a little Star Wars fanatic at home, this might be the perfect way to spoil them when the time is right. And if not, it's a great opportunity to introduce them to this galactic world.
