This Response To Trump's Tweet Was Absolutely Perfect

In 2017, the president of the United States is a Twitter user. And people would expect President Donald Trump to use his platform to address the nation regarding the issues that matter. But it hasn't worked out that way. On Sunday morning, Trump tweeted out a video of himself, wrestling and slamming to the ground a person with the CNN logo superimposed on their face, a response, presumably, to a recent story about a Trump associate the network had run that was later pulled. The tweet was pretty outrageous and this one reaction to Trump's tweet proves exactly why.

The video which Trump tweeted out was taken from a WWE wrestling match broadcast, a match in which Trump had participated years before he became the president. In the video, Trump can be seen slamming a man to the ground and pounding him with simulated punches. Any other time, the video might have been considered comical — a reminder that the electoral college voted a former reality star into the Oval Office.

But in context, some have argued that the video conveys a more violent message to his followers. For a man who has consistently encouraged violence in the past, he really likes to talk about the unfair and unkind treatment he has received from the media and the American people. The tweet also demonstrates the president's hypocrisy when it comes to his actions and what he expects in return from everyone else.

In a biting reply, one Twitter user — a reporter — effectively summed up the general public sentiment perfectly: "This was a level of viciousness I was not expecting," they wrote, quoting White House adviser and first daughter Ivanka Trump herself.

The hypocrisy was definitely jarring.

In May, Trump claimed that "no politician in history" had been treated "worse or more unfairly" than himself. And in a separate instance, Trump's daughter and White House advisor Ivanka Trump told Fox & Friends that she was surprised by the "level of viciousness" in politics. "So I didn't expect it to be easy," Ivanka said. "I think some of the distractions and some of the ferocity was, I was a little blindsided at a personal level."

In this case, however, it's the president that is being "vicious." As mentioned, some have argued that he is advocating for violence against journalists and suggests that taking down a news organization or taking down a journalist is funny. He can't expect people to treat him and his presidency with a certain level of civility when they haven't received the same. He is the president of the United States — his actions and tweets matter.

"Look, the American people elected a fighter," White House Spokesperson Sarah Huckabee Sanders said during a press conference on Thursday. "They didn't elect someone to sit back and do nothing. He fights fire with fire." Sure, this video suggests that Trump is a fighter (literally). But when journalists are just trying to do their job and the president insists on turning the press into the enemy of the people, his actions can't be seen as self defense. Bottom line: Trump's tweet is dangerous.
