Jon & Dany Have Fans In Their Feelings During The 'Game Of Thrones' Finale

After an episode and a half of Daenerys Targaryen's spiral into dictatorship, Jon Snow decided to take matters into his own hands to stop her for the good of the realm. Though Jon loved her, he felt he couldn't let her continue down the path she was on. And the Twitter reactions to Jon and Daenerys on Game of Thrones prove fans have some feelings about how Jon decided to go about ending her reign.

Spoilers ahead, so be warned. Jon was conflicted about Dany, especially after witnessing her give an incendiary speech to her army about extending their reach even farther than Westeros. (Does he understand Valyrian? Ah, well, he probably got the gist.) First he checked in with Arya, who warned him that Dany probably wouldn't let Jon live considering he had a stronger claim on the throne as Rhaegar's only living son. Arya said she knew a killer when she saw one, and Dany was it. Then he spoke to Tyrion, who offered a list of Dany's past misdeeds to convince both Jon and the audience that her sudden turn was a long time coming.

Still, Jon's mind didn't seem made up yet. He met with Dany in front of the Iron Throne for one last confrontation where she urged him to see things her way. You can't make an omelette without cracking a few eggs, Jon! Alas, he was not down with her plans for future barbecues.

Dany and Jon drew close for a romantic embrace. She asked him to rule the world with her, to overcome their painful childhoods by forging something new together. But instead of taking her up on it, Jon gave her one last kiss and plunged a dagger into her heart. He assured her that she would always be his queen but, uh, actions speak louder than words here.

Reactions to this were mixed. Some viewers thought it brought things full circle, in a strange way. Daenerys basically lived out her father's reign on fast-forward by burning down the city and then being stabbed by someone she trusted. But others didn't understand the point of it all. Was Jon really resurrected just to kill Dany? Did all that build-up mean nothing in the end?

A few audience members chose to imagine their own ending, especially once they saw what happened after Jon killed Dany. Drogon burned down the Iron Throne before flying away with Dany's body; as punishment for his crime, Jon was sent back to the Night's Watch. You know, to watch a Wall that doesn't exist anymore and keep an eye out for a threat that was already defeated in Episode 3. Or something.

It seemed unfair to Daenerys' character for her to meet such an unceremonious end. On top of that, after pushing Jon into killing Dany, Tyrion ended up reworking the entire ruling system of the country and getting appointed Hand of the King again (because he did it so well the first few times). It was unsatisfying to see these storylines finish up in the way that they did.

In conclusion: Jon returned to the exact place he started, Dany and Drogon are doing a Weekend at Bernie's thing somewhere out there, and Tyrion made Bran the king for... reasons. It's easy to see why viewers on Twitter had a lot to say about the Game of Thrones finale. People are going to be dissecting this one for a while.
