Bryan's Mom Might Come To Blows With Rachel On 'The Bachelorette'

by Megan Walsh

Rachel and Bryan hit it off immediately on The Bachelorette and that connection only got stronger over the course of filming. Now Bryan is one of four guys who will be introducing Rachel to their families to see if that compatibility extends beyond the two of them. Hometown dates can be incredibly revealing, especially because marriage is the end goal of the entire series. You have to be able to get along with your significant other's extended family if you have any hope of making it work longterm. But what does Bryan's mom think of Rachel on The Bachelorette?

This is bound to be a concern of both Rachel and Bryan's going into hometowns, because it seems like Bryan's mom can be a little difficult to get along with (at least according to him). During a one-on-one date, Bryan told Rachel all about how his last relationship fell apart because his ex didn't get along with his mom. That could mean trouble for Rachel, and the promo for hometown dates does look particularly tense. Bryan's mom ends the promo with a statement that starts off OK but quickly takes a left turn into worrying territory. "If he's happy, I'm happy," she says to Rachel, which sounds great until she adds, "If not, I'll kill you."

However, promos are purposefully misleading. After Bryan told the story of his last breakup, it would make sense that the network might choose to play up the possibility of his mom's disapproval in ads for the show. It creates interest but it might not be the most honest; until the episode airs, there's no way to know just how things unfold between Rachel and Bryan's mom. It could go really well – or really badly.

Of course, Rachel definitely wants it to go well and she's conscious of just how important this moment is. "Meeting somebody's family is very, very serious," she said. "I feel like I need to understand him more and where he comes from, what his family is like, what they’re going to think of me and will they be accepting of me. I have some important questions before I can hand out that rose."

Rachel seems to really like Bryan, so one can only hope that Bryan's mom sticks to the first part of her statement rather than the second half. If Bryan's happiness is all that matters, then everything should be fine. If it's not fine, then maybe Bryan isn't the one for Rachel after all.
