What Does Nicole Brown Simpson's Family Think About OJ Simpson's Parole?

The name OJ Simpson is a lot of things to a lot of people — actor, football star, alleged murderer — but there's now a new word to describe Simpson: parolee. On July 20, Simpson was granted parole after nine years in prison for robbery, kidnapping, and assault. But what does Nicole Brown Simpson's family think?

In the 23 years since their sister and daughter, Nicole Brown Simpson, was murdered along with her friend, Ron Goldman, Nicole's family, especially her two sisters, have spoken out a lot about Simpson, the case, and their family. In early 2016, when everyone was talking about FX's miniseries The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story, Nicole's younger sister, Tanya Brown, spoke to People about what the series meant to her and her family, and what she wanted Nicole to be remembered for. "Her kids were her life," Brown said, noting that her older sister should be remembered as a mom rather than a domestic violence victim. Brown also added that she and her family never wanted to go through the loss of Nicole again, but that she "reluctantly watched" the miniseries to see how her sister was depicted and what was said.

But the miniseries isn't the only Simpson news Brown has spoken out about recently. On July 17, just three days before Simpson's parole hearing, Brown tweeted to her personal Twitter, "I am sorry. I am not speaking regarding this case as it does not involve us."

As the decision regarding Simpson's parole was made, however, Fox News tweeted another statement from Brown.

This isn't the first time the Brown family has released a statement on Simpson's 2008 conviction. According to The Dallas Morning News, Nicole's other sister, Denise Brown, made a statement about Simpson's latest arrest. "Allowing wealth, power and control to consume himself, he made a horrific choice on June 12, 1994, which has spiraled into where he is today," she said. The Morning News reported that both the Brown and Goldman families felt there was a direct connection between the murders of Nicole and Ron Goldman and OJ's armed robbery. The Goldmans allegedly believed that Simpson was pushed into theft after he was ordered to pay $33.5 million to the families of Nicole and Ron in a lawful death suit.

While it's true that this parole hearing had nothing to do with the Brown family, it's still important to hear the reactions of Nicole's family. After all, this is a man who was found not guilty in a criminal trial, but guilty in a civil suit and ordered to pay the families of the victims. His relationship to the Brown family doesn't simply go away — he had two children with Nicole. The Daily Mail reported that Tanya Brown said both the kids still loved their dad and she "had to respect that."

When you think of it that way, it makes her reaction even more compelling. Maybe she doesn't want to say much because she's thinking of her niece and nephew. Maybe there really is nothing to say. Maybe she's trying to help her family heal.

And maybe she just wants the rest of the world to let her.
