Here's When You Can Expect 'Arrow' To Return

by Zakiya Jamal

This season of Arrow has seen a lot of changes for Oliver. He's now a full-time dad to his son, William; he and Felicity got married; and he's no longer the Green Arrow. Well, kind of. However, despite passing the hood to Diggle, it's Oliver who's on trial for the Green Arrow's misdeeds and in the winter finale, Oliver may just find himself imprisoned. So fans will probably be curious to know when Arrow returns from its winter hiatus. Thankfully, it won't be for very long.

Fans can learn what's next for Oliver and Team Arrow when Arrow returns on Thursday, Jan. 18 at 8 p.m. EST. But first, they have to get through the midseason finale and there's a lot going on. In celebration of Oliver and Felicity's surprise nuptials, the group is having a wedding party, or reception, if you will. Unfortunately, Detective Lance shows up with some bad news. Turns out Oliver is most likely definitely going to jail because a witness is going to testify that they know Oliver is the Green Arrow. To make matters worse, the witness is apparently someone on the team.

This wouldn't be the first time the team was betrayed. Last season, Evelyn, aka Artemis, turned her back on the team when she learned Oliver used to be "The Hood," and she worked with Adrian Chase/Prometheus to get revenge on Oliver. It's unclear what exactly happened to Evelyn, since she was on Lian Yu when it blew up, but allegedly Nyssa went looking for her. Could Evelyn be the witness that's going to testify against him? That would certainly be a twist and makes much more sense than anyone else on the team being guilty.

Regardless of who is planning on betraying Oliver, the looming anticipation of who it could be has the team rattled, and for good reason. However, this is the worst time for them to be doubting each other because during the episode Lance is kidnapped by Black Siren and Cayden James, who hope to trade Lance's life for a weapon of mass destruction. With Oliver currently back in the field while Diggle takes a break, this is not a good time for the team to not be trusting one another. Unfortunately, based on the trailer, that's exactly what happens.

To also cause a little more havoc, Thea finally woke up from her coma during the Thanksgiving episode two weeks ago, and she has quite a bit to catch up on. Thankfully, she seems to be doing well now, even walking and talking, but this obviously isn't a great situation to be stepping into. Her brother may be going to jail and Lance, who's like a father figure in her life, gets kidnapped. This could be a lot for Thea, but she's always been strong and no doubt she'll want to jump in and help out anyway she can. The only thing is, will Oliver let her get back in the field so soon? Probably not.

There's a lot going on in this episode, and so much that can happen. Will Oliver and the team be able to save Lance before it's too late and save the city at the same time? Who will betray Oliver and why? And is Oliver really going to be found guilty and sentenced to jail time right after he and Felicity finally tied the knot. One would hope not, but, really, you never know.

Make sure to tune in for the midseason finale of Arrow tonight on The CW at 8 p.m. EST.
