Whitney Port Opened Up About Her Pre-Pregnancy Scare

by Kaitlin Kimont

Just as she’s been candid and honest with her fans about how she’s handling expecting her first child, Whitney Port opened up about a pre-pregnancy scare that her doctor said could giver her troubles conceiving her bundle of joy. The Hills alum, who is currently in her third trimester, revealed in a new blog post for People that she and her husband, producer Tim Rosenman, both got bacterial infections while honeymooning in Fiji. As she explained, the soon-to be-dad’s infection was located in his foot while Port's was a pelvic infection — a scary and painful medical issue that she feared would keep her from getting pregnant later on.

We got home and I went to my doctor, who put me on antibiotics immediately. The infection cleared up, but my doctor seemed concerned that this could have an effect on me getting pregnant down the road,” Port wrote in the People blog post. “I don’t know about you guys, but any slightly scary news from a doctor can send me into a spiral.”

While Port did not go into detail about the specifics of her pelvic infection, an infection of this kind can cause permanent damage by developing scar tissue on the female internal reproductive organs, which can lead to infertility as it can block the fallopian tubes, according to the American Pregnancy Association.

Port explained that, when she and Rosenman first got married, they had discussed starting a family and had decided they both wanted to wait to do. But when the time eventually came, she was worried about the news she’d gotten from her doctor the year prior.

"Fast forward to about a year later. Timmy and I were now seriously having the talk and pretty ready to start trying. He was, at least. To be honest, I was freaking out," she wrote in the blog post. "In my heart, I knew that I was never going to be 'ready,' and that in time, I would just learn whatever I needed to learn and be okay. But he seemed to not be worried at all, which was great, but also secretly annoying."

As she wrote, they agreed Port would go off her birth control and just "see what happened," although they assumed it'd be a long journey considering her previous medical issue and they'd have to track her ovulation cycle and "all that other stuff you see in movies." Turns out none of that was necessary for the parents-to-be and Port announced the exciting news on Instagram back in February.

The former reality star concluded the post by telling her readers that they'll be able to catch up about her life as an expectant mom on her YouTube channel every other Thursday and hopes to create an open and interactive community with her readers about their journeys as well.
