Who Is Leann Harvey On 'House Of Cards' Season 4? Neve Campbell's Character Is Important To Claire

by Kylie McConville

It's to be expected that a new season of any show will bring along with it a new band of characters, but I was pretty surprised to hear that Neve Campbell was joining the roster for Season 4 of one of my own personal favorites. When the announcement was first made that Neve Campbell's character, Leann Harvey, on House of Cards would be a for-real thing, I was pretty pumped. A badass survivor from Scream now shacking up with Frank and Claire Underwood full-time? It sounded all too good to be true. And yet, here we are. (Spoilers for Season 4, Episode 1 of House of Cards.)

When we first meet Leann Harvey, it comes in the aftermath of a phone call made once Claire Underwood touches down in Dallas, Texas and begins to make her move toward "the 30th," and ultimately, a seat in Congress. After arriving at the Hale estate, Claire praises Leann for "making the Democrats relevant again in a very red state," which is clearly a nod to Harvey's career choice: politics (not shocking, I know). What is surprising is that Underwood is in Texas and in need of strategic allies, and Harvey just so happens to very clearly fit that bill. Now, Claire Underwood officially has her very own version of Doug Stamper. (Willingness to kill for Claire the way Doug does for Frank is still TBD.)

Harvey's presence on the show is sure to hold a ton of promise for Season 4, especially because it means that Claire officially has someone in her corner to help her get a leg up on her husband (which, spoiler, is going to be very important to Claire's #goals this season!). Though she might seem like the good, wholesome Texan girl when standing alongside the First Lady, after Claire discloses that she wants Harvey to run her campaign for the 30, we're privy a whole new view of Campbell's seemingly good-girl character. In typical First Lady fashion, Claire's already hatched a plan to usurp both Doris Jones and her daughter, Celia, for a seat in Congress, and naturally, Harvey is down for the ride.

When it becomes clear that Francis and Doug (of course) are going to do everything within their power to make that run for a Congressional seat next to impossible for Claire to do without help from her husband, it sets the stage for a really interesting battle to come. Plus, the whole casual pulling-of-a-gun-from-the-drawer-of-her-desk scene was just so perfectly Texas that I'd hate to see Harvey's character have just a short-lived stay on the show. But something tells me that Leann Harvey is in for the long haul, and that should terrify Francis Underwood.
